DJI Pocket 2 Firmware Update V01.02.00.50 Review. HDR and Active Tracking are Horrible, Sound Good.

DJI Pocket 2 Firmware Update V01.02.00.50 is here and it introduces HDR to this amazing little camera Gimbal. But the question is, is it any good?

HDR video should give you a little more dynamic range but the implementation is terrible and far from ideal. You get a heavy crop in and it is not available on 4K. I go through this and the other improvements and discover whether they are genuine improvements, pure marketing gimmicks, or complete fiascos. You gotta give DJI credit for trying and addressing some of the issues that people report, even if their initial implementation is far from perfect.

But there are some gems here like audio monitoring which was long overdue. Features like this continue to improve this brilliant camera and gimbal. I am sure firmware updates will keep addressing and improving an already impressive device.

I test the HDR video, headphone monitoring, gimbal lock, active tracking gimbal start-up functions, and more.

i also have the dji osmo action and it has hdr so i didnt expect ground breaking hdr in the pocket 2. it takes in more details sure, its useable if youre recording with a bright background it does better than the normal or dcinelike.

Ah you uploaded a HDR review.. hahah (look at comments on DJI Pocket 2 review where I asked if you tried HDR). Wow vicious. Thanks.. you just saved me from spending a lot of time looking up more DJI HDR footage. Active tracking... maybe that is to set on a tripod and slowly walk away and around the property behind you. My Osmo + (been in a box for a couple years now) seems so much like DJI consumer gimbals. Really interesting physical user, and really poor electronics/controls. Again.. all DJI has to do is take the camera from Mavic Pro 2 and slap it on the handle. $800 and I would buy two.

5/2022 and still no fix to pocket 2 active track. I have pocket one and was thinking of upgrading because of the wider lens and better sensor. Why couldn't they get the pocket 2 w better sensor to correct the active track? i also have the original osmo phone gimbal(first version) and the active track work really well when paired to my phone.

I agree! at first I started my vlog with the Hero 9 but I was disappointed with quality of the video, not to mention the over heating and missing footage takes... I have the Osmo Pocket 1 but I decided to get the Pocket 2 for the wide angle and voice recording... the tracking on the pocket 2 is total garbage. Look at my vlogs and let me know what you think.

Try tracking with the lock on it works amazing - without lock on it doesn’t hold as well and goes haywire

Was the active tracking better in the DJI #1??

you know, I've got HDR on most of my mirrorless higher end cameras, and for video? It sucks too. Stills, it works, somewhat. If you can use HDR on a still photo in Pocket? does that increase Dynamic Range? One thing you did NOT mention in firmware upgrade is the ability with Do It All handle thingy now to monitor audio through the 3.5 jack. that is a huge professional feature. HDR? screw it. Just increase DR in post. big deal. maybe Pocket 3 they will improve it. Tracking? yes you are not the first to complain it's quirky, works sometimes, doesn't others. Hey its a $350 4k 60 shooting stabilized camera. $500 with the Do it All. You ain't going to get what it can do for that price any camera maker. Maybe Go Pro. An Eye Phone 12 Max, comparable, is $1200 or more. I mean for the money, this is a good deal. I'd like you to try the Cine mode and show us how that flatter profile grades in post. anyway, good honest review, yes some of it is there will be pressure to improve it thanks to reviews like yours.
