I think this is probably one of my favorite songs of yours. I think this song accurately describes what it’s like to feel so stuck in a loop of trying to get better, plateauing and feeling stuck, and relapsing back into feeling awful, and continuing this cycle despite trying your best to get better. That exhausting feeling of feeling like this cycle is “set in stone, ” the fall back into depression is super raw, and I think this work perfectly encapsulates that.

Something interesting that I'd like to point out is that the line spoken at 1:43 is from Jekyll and Hyde, which my girlfriend initially pointed out. The line at 3:42 is ALSO from Jekyll and Hyde, but it's not written down anywhere in the music video or the subtitles. I ended up finding a website with the full novel, and after I was able to make out one keyword I ended up figuring out what was said using control + f. Maki said the following:

"I resolved in my future conduct to redeem the past; and I can say with honesty that my resolve was fruitful of some good."

So, take that how you will.

my guess on what this is- its about someone who is forcing themselves to repeat the same habits over and over again despite hating them. They constantly do this even if they hurt themselves and have to sabotage their own lives out of the pressure that if if they don't follow through with it they'll destroy their life and chances of being happy and have to go back to a past they don't want.

from what we get the hear, the song has a very - i want to say ethereal, vibe to it? it sort of seems like some kind of haunted location. with the trailer for "cause + effect", the preview was a sort of stripped version of the full song, so i'm left to wonder if that effect has also been applied on this song as well. i'll add further commentary and thoughts after the premiere
edit: the song is very good! i definitely wasn't expecting that sudden tone shift in the middle, but i LOVED it. it reminds me of some of GHOST's older songs, actually, which was a neat thing to see. there's definitely some kind of story hidden in that pv, but i'm not too concerned with figuring it out - the song itself is amazing, and the repetition lends to that sort of funhouse feel where things look just off enough to be concerning. definitely a great song!
