Is the 2023 Land Rover Defender 130 a better SUV than a Chevrolet Suburban Z71?

The Defender gets a 3-row version from Lan Rover for 2023. This SUV will compete with the Jeep Wagoneer / Grand Wagoneer, GMC Yukon and Chevy Suburban. On the outside you will discover the stretched wheelbase, and family boxy shape. On the inside there is now more passenger room and cargo space. Under the hood is a 3.0L turbocharged inline-6 producing 395 HP & mated to an 8-speed automatic transmission. Is the 2023 Land Rover Defender 130 a better SUV than a Chevrolet Suburban Z71?

I like how rugged this Land Rover looks, squared, 3 rows, don't mind the silver along the bottom blends nicely. Interior is spot on with LR. The zonk is reliability!

Just bought one and LOVE it! We've had a Sequoia for 9 years. Had planned to switch to the new Sequoia but crazy that the Defender 3rd row has more space as the Sequoia changed. Luggage is still too small when using all rows, but we have the top rack. The ablity to lay down the back of the middle seat on the 2nd row, helps to open up the space. It's so fun to drive and just class. Love it!

I think the Tahoe would be a better comparison given the interior space for passengers and the "trunk" space when the 3rd row is up.

The Defender is an extremely capable 4x4and looks great. The only big bugaboo are the electronics. Love the white color. Fair review that points out shortcomings - good job.

Joe, a very nice looking vehicle, I love the outside styling. I am not crazy with the shifter location and I am concern with reliability of Land Rovers. I would have to say that I like the Suburban/Yukon XL as my choice. How many people are going to take a $100k vehicle off road or into the water?

I saw one the other day in white exterior color. Looks are subjective but I thought the front end looks great and is the most attractive part of its exterior design. The extra 13 inches overhang does make it look considerably longer than the 110. Add in the long flat roof and it does kind of give off lifted Ford Flex vibes from the side profile. It's around 211 inches long but that includes the spare on the swing gate. Without the spare it's about the same length as a Nissan Pathfinder or Honda Pilot, say close to 200 inches. Some folks may assume incorrectly that this has a lot more cargo space than it actually offers because with the spare on the back it's about the size of an Escalade or Tahoe, but again 10 inches or so of its length is taken up with the spare wheel. Its cargo space is more in line with the midsize SUVs and actually has less than some like the Telluride and new Pilot.
