Phoenix – 1901 (live for The Current)

Hours before launching their Alpha Zulu tour at the Palace Theatre in St. Paul, Minn., on Tuesday, Sept. 6, French indie-pop band Phoenix visited The Current studio to perform a set of songs — including two from the new album — as well as this throwback to their 2009 album, "Wolfgang Amadeus Phoenix." No matter how big these guys get or how much time passes, they always seem to come back to the Twin Cities to do live sets with The Current. I wonder if they like Minnesota or like working with The Current, or a combination of the two.

you just know this rendition is miles better than the original over 15 years later when you notice Christian for the full duration can’t keep his mouth closed being in full concentration zone, Thomas giving us this vocals in a higher key not heard before like it’s aged the way a fine wine would, unreal man. really does douse in you in nostalgia.

Phoenix sound good on a small stage, large stage, in a tiny room, on a cd or recording. That is the measure of true musicians, they sound good however they play and however you listen to them because none of it is fake, it's all true.

The sound of my early 20s. This song conjures a lot of good memories. This Wolfgang Amadaus Phoenix album released when I was 19 but was everywhere the next few years. Heard it at bars and on the radio etc etc. Great Album from a time i thought music was in decline. And it certainly was and still is bit there are still plenty of hidden gems if you just look for them.

This band is remarkable. I didn't hear them until probably 2012 when I was 45 years old. Everything they do is at least good, most of it is great. There is legitimate funk style going on in drums and bass especially and imaginative coloring going on the the guitars- very jazzy. The extra insane part is that dude is a native French speaker and his command of the English language in song is better than most of the American stuff we put out.
