Pablo de Sarasate: Carmen Fantasy, Op.25 (Augustin Hadelich)
Показать описание
Composer: Pablo de Sarasate (1844-1908)
Pablo de Sarasate composed thirteen fantasies on opera themes during his lifetime to show his virtuosity and talent as a violinist (and arranger). In the late nineteenth century, much of the concertgoing public had a passion for operas, making these arrangements very popular with audiences. Sarasate followed a line of French composers, such as Charles-Auguste de Bériot, who used this method of arrangement to create their own fantasies.
The Carmen Fantasy was composed by Sarasate in 1881. He chose four particularly memorable numbers from the opera by Georges Bizet. The basic melodic/harmonic framework remained unchanged, but Sarasate added virtuosic variations (such as trills, lower mordents,
harmonics, double and triple stops) to each repeat of the theme.
This performance was recorded in August 2020 by Augustin Hadelich, during the COVID-19 hiatus.
