Ames Department Stores announces its return in 2023

The company says it'll reveal where they're opening new locations, but the chain will reportedly open several stores here in Pennsylvania.

I was born 1980 so I grew up shopping at Ames, never wanted them to close. I hope they regain their popularity and open up across the country I have missed them.

Putting aside the issue of whether or not this is a hoax, let us address the fact that this company failed to survive in a retail market WITHOUT Amazon as a factor. Even if every abandoned Ames were to somehow magically reopen with full inventory and staff, there's no reason to believe that they would be anything resembling competitive. Sears is down to just 17 stores. Kmart is down to 3. These are two retail chains that survived when Ames couldn't. You might as well try bringing back Blockbuster.

coming back 20 years later was a good idea. The store will have lost its negative reputation. Teens and young adults have no history of being embarrassed to shop there and hopefully the forty-somethings have grown up.

We had an Ames located just outside of our small town and it was so great because it was a local place to do some shopping for stuff like clothes and household items without having to travel to the nearest city. I spent so much time out there when I was young. Bought a lot of playstation games and Dragon Ball Z figures out there. Was a huge loss once they decided to close the store's location.

I worked at Ames Department Store from 1993 to 2002. I would love to see this happen but I got a feeling that this is a hoax. I really hope I am wrong.
