Google UX Design Certificate Courses Review | 2024 Version

In 2021, I took the Google UX Design Certificates and made a series of review videos on them over the years. Since then, I've landed a role at eBay and expanded my network in both the tech and design education spaces. I'm extremely grateful that Coursera and Google released such a great educational resource, which significantly boosted my career. However, I've observed a few gaps as the design field has evolved over the years and has become increasingly competitive. This is an honest video on my opinion of the Google UX Design Certificates in 2024. For those of you who are curious or are taking the certificates, keep going! However, please set realistic expectations and understand that this is just the first step in becoming a designer. The joy is in the journey.

I really appreciate you running through all of your professional experience before the certificate. It really illustrates how a variety of experiences make up a good designer and that you had other knowledge before the certificate.

Thank you so much for all this information. It's been a little over two months since I finished my Google course, and I was feeling lost because it seemed to have some missing pieces. However, you've filled in those gaps

Here's my new account since the old one is inactive. I’m taking a Meta Frontend Development course to gain real UI/UX skills. Without the knowledge, a certificate is just a piece of paper, reducing its value to the one who really learned

This is the most important conversation. The certificates promise a lot but as a beginner I never knew that so many who take them are already in the industry or something related. Thank you for sharing this.

Thank-you for this breakdown. I recently completed both my UX Design and Data Analyst courses for Google but was curious if both certificates were enough to get your foot in the door. It seems like they are a good starting to point…..but may not be enough to get your foot in the door depending on what job try to obtain. I haven’t had any luck securing another job but hope that changes soon.

I hope you see this! In the second course, students must pick 1 of 25 prompts to work on. Do you believe there is any advantage in choosing some over others? Or certain prompts that may be overdone?

After 13years on the graphic design field ( meaning printing ), I just quit my job and move to the UK. And finally find them taking this ux course. Don’t think it will get me to an ux job here, but I guess it could help me on other way😂 once complete this programme I am considering front
-end cert for better understanding of it😹

Thank you for the great content. I am finding your videos very helpful during my journey to learn UX Design. I am specifically interested in making a career jump from a Motion Graphics Artist in the Video Production world to a UX Motion Designer. Is Motion Design in UX a role you still see as relevant in 2024 and looking forward? What are any other tips you have for this specialization? Thank you!

I have a question about you saying that we can label ourselves as a Senior Designer.

I'm currently working on a project and I'm applying the double diamond framework to use as a cast study. I've worked as a web designer for about 3 years self-employed/employed and I'm also planning on re-designing a previous project if It might help. A bit impatient haha.

Would 1 case study for UX with numerous of past projects highlighting UI be enough to get interviews for a Senior Web Designer role?

Hi Aliena! I really appreciate your video! I am really keen to start your course instead of Google Course, is there any financial aid or scholarship that I could use to buy your course, or even installment payments ?
I am transitioning from architecture which I didn't have very good experience with and I realized that I was always in the design part instead of architecture architecture, so I would like to try UI and UX design.
Thanks a lot in advance!

Okay, that's good, but for a beginner and broke?
I'm a graphic designer originally, and I've been designing UI since my teenage years without realizing
that this was a real field, I was doing it for fun.
But.. when I studied graphic design and then went to the job market, I discovered that there was nothing in the world of graphic design (like logos, prints...etc) suit me, and I didn't see myself in it. So I wanted to go back to what I was trying to do and enjoy it
But I don't even have a dollar in my pocket.
The internet is free here, the phone is 5 years old, and I lost my job before I had any money to learn.
I guess all I have now is the internet to search for free resources to learn, at least in the beginning.
