Questions answer: the fiber of the wood changes very often, when you hit branches or hidden branches. You are the first pro who knows how to explain things. Respect. Greetings from austria

Most excellent. People need to understand how it works in order to know how to file it. I’ve been on a quest to find the best chain and sharpening method to cut desert hardened eucalyptus. I was going to make a video about something that occurred to me the other day. The top plate angle is actually showing you how sharp or acute the side cutter angle is. The hook in the side cutter is actually showing you how aggressive the top plate angle of attack is, how aggressively it’s going to want to feed. I got some oregon Duracut DPX and it fed poorly OTB. So first I took the rakers down (3120 in vids) that helped some. Later I put some hook in on my Stihl grinder…but I didn’t change my top plate angle. Fail…with the depth gauges down, the aggressive angle on the top plate would pull the cutters into the wood, but the relatively blunt side cutter couldn’t sever that much. Each cutter acted like a wood anchor. Very grabby and prone to stalling even on a ported 395.

I was gonna say when you hit a knot or branch growth within the log. And looking at the comments before I post I was correct. Woo woo. Good video. You definitely got a sub from me sir.

I think the switch happens because the fibres on the top side of the log run opposite to the fibres on the bottom side of the log due to the round shape of the log.

Reason I always wonder if filing into the tooth is better because of not creating a wire edge on the side plate(ala knife sharpening ) ??

My answer: maybe the switch occurs because of a change in grain direction during the cut? This is just a guesstimate since I find it hard to visualize the situation. Really enjoy these videos.
