"We demand that he be present." / "It is important that she take enough water on this trip."
Are these sentences grammatically correct? Oh yes! It's the subjunctive.

Thanks for this lesson! I barely use the subjunctive now; I knew it existed yet ever since a native speaker corrected me when I said "It is important that she understand the dialog" I stopped using it - unfortunately, because it sounds very formal and correct, we have it in Spanish and we use it quite a lot!

Finally, I found a good explanation...

I didn't understand why "Suffice it to say" has "to", since we don't use "to" with subjunctive mood. May someone explain it, please?

When English was younger, this was a rule. In French and other languages, it is a rule. I have a hard time with the warning about not overusing it, because it is the proper way to speak. (Reclaiming the grammatical mistake). Which brings up the topic of language change over time...

That was very clarifying to me, specially because you analyze it from clauses (subordinative).

Can we ommit the word (that) in every tense?

Nice lesson... and very good voice! You conveyed a great passion for English :)

I just don't really get what you mean with that "overuse". How could I overuse the correct grammar? :)

I have a question. Consider this following sentence: "If there was a person trying to speak English, what would you do?"Should it be "If there *were*  a person..."? Or should I leave it as it is.

Dear prof,
someone wrote: it's impossible THAT he knowS !
I was wondering whether one has to use present subjunctive ("that he know") because of that or is considered over formaI; incorrect, old-fashioned. thank you kindly. A
