Bill Gates said he’s prepared to plow billions of dollars into a next-generation nuclear power plant project in Wyoming to meet growing US electricity needs.

TerraPower LLC, a startup founded by Gates, broke ground for construction of its first commercial reactor last week in Wyoming, where a coal plant is shutting down, the billionaire co-founder of Microsoft Corp. said on CBS’s Face the Nation. TerraPower has explored simpler, cheaper reactors since 2008 and expects to complete the new reactor in 2030.

You mean he’s willing to have a way to monetize it for his own gain once it’s done and hiked up prices after a while

Why didnt he do this like 15 years ago? Probably started this a few years ago is my guess, it takes from 7-12 years to build a nuclear power plant. This is also just dumb. Imagine if we didnt ramp up AI to make mostly inconsequential economic effects, which has ramped up electricity needs very quickly by 10-20% for some corporations, ahem Microsoft. Or imagine we stopped producing stuff that could be easily modeled and figured out that its excess supply and will be headed to landfill.
Never about addressing root causes. Never about aligning with nature. We are headed for a disaster which will make covid look miniscule.

I think there is quite a lot of uranium in Wyoming. I grew up there in the 50s and remember people with Geiger counters prospecting. 🤷🏼‍♂️
