Synopsis of Jen's tips:

1. Write a bio you can show people. I am assuming this should also entail getting personal business cards and setting up a LinkedIn and other social media accounts.
2. Show people in the industry your script and your presumably also your bio, LinkedIn, website, etc.

Ultimately, you're a freelancer, so you need to act like one by marketing your product. If you think the product is good, show it to people. Simple as that. You did the hard part already. It may never sell, but you still wrote it, so you should still try to sell it for a little while. If it doesn't sell for six months and you've tried everywhere you could, give it up and move on. Maybe you can return to it one day. Make adjustments with feedback if you want but, either way, you should start thinking about your next script, because it's possible you're going to need to repeat this process many times before you sell a screenplay. Or maybe not -- who knows? The only way to find out is to show it to people, so do that.

Good luck.

True words! Publish/enter into a competition your script only, when it is strong enough for that scene.

What I can never get my head round with “experts” saying a script has to be ready, the best it can be, polished etc that is the case, why are the majority of films total rubbish!???

Can entering your script into contests put your story at risk of being stolen (even after copyrighting and registering with WGA)?

what about copyright. what is the first step to protect your script and copyright it?

I’m a writing a script for a movie and so far it has taken me two years for me to write it and I’m still not finished. So I was wondering how do you get people together to make your film

Just write, hope for the best, and let the chips fall where they may

Hey, about these competitions, have any writers ever had ideas stolen after entering them?

lol I'm one of the slower ones - anyone know what she means by a " creative bio?" Is that like a story taking various events from your personal life and having fictional characters experience them for a script? Wondering how others read into that.

WTF. You need feedback from people in the industry FIRST. The experts. Most writers suck shit. They are legends in their own mind.

Is 4 a general minimum to call your palette of writing samples a "portfolio"? Or is it a varied minimum before you should realistically tell potential mentors, partners, representation or companies you have a portfolio without eliciting laughter. Lol

why not produce it & perhaps star in it like Orson welles did in Citizen Kane? Seems to much of a gamble waiting for that ONE person to buy the script.
