Rare Photos Of Empress Alexandra Feodorovna's Pregnancy

Here are some rare photos of the Last Empress of Russia Alexandra Feodorovna who was the last Empress of Russia as wife of Emperor Nicholas II from their marriage on 26 November [O.S. 14 November] 1894 until his forced abdication on 15 March [O.S. 2 March] 1917. She was a favorite granddaughter of Queen Victoria UK, she and her immediate family were killed while in Bolshevik captivity in 1918, during the Russian Revolution. In 2000, the Russian Orthodox Church declared her the Passion-bearer of Saint Alexandra. Photographs of a royal pregnancy were rare at the time. We are fortunate to have these images today.

She truly was the unsmiling Empress. She had a childhood filled with loss and mourning and even though she adored Nicholas and their children she could not achieve happiness or peace. Her son Alexi was a hemophiliac and often very ill, but it was more than that. It seemed like she sensed the danger they were in and feared the end that they eventually suffered. Thank you for the amazing photos of a world that once existed.
