In my opinion, Valic is a very difficult company to deal with.  I caution anyone who might be considering Valic for their financial retirement.  One of the things they do is to block access to your account information by requiring that you answer several "enhanced security" questions with their customer service people.  Now it might sound like a cautious, protective measure but some of the questions are very obscure.  Most people don't remember insignificant dates such as when you signed forms through your employer numerous years ago.  It's things like this that appear to be stalling tactics rather than genuine concern for the consumer.  My questions for them were simple and would not have betrayed any account information but they still refused to discuss things with me.  I don't recommend them.  There are many other companies that make financial discussions much more pleasant.
