YAK CARAVAN - YAKS ON EVEREST BASE CAMP TREK

Himalayan yak caravan on the way to Everest base camp trek. These incredibly strong creatures have many uses in the Himalayas.
I saw yaks for the first time when I trekked to Everest Base Camp in 1999. Locals, use yaks as their transport to bring up all their foods and stuff. They were decorated with patterned rugs, bells, and tassels which can make it easy to identify the yaks to the owners when they mixed up.

what you are paying for the Everest base camp trek some portion of it will go to yak too, not bad hah! Yaks are cheaper than the porters and helicopters which is another reason to use them.
while on the Everest base camp trek you can see many of them and on most of the trekking routes of Nepal, you will find them. some time yaks can be dangerous too, better not to go close to them and careful while taking pictures of the yaks. whenever you meet yaks on EBC trek give them the side to go first and don't block their way. On EBC trek, trekkers also use yaks to carry their stuff. yaks are also waiting to meet you all on the way to the Everest base camp trek.
