Honour killing of Iraqi blogger sparks outrage in Iraq

The death of a young YouTube star at the hands of her father has sparked outrage in Iraq. Tiba Ali had been living in Turkey since 2017 against her father's wishes. Ali had returned to her home country at the request of her mother last month, but attempts by police to solve the family dispute failed.

Amnesty International criticised the leniency in which the Iraqi penal code deals with honour crimes.

I don't think the phenomenon of Honor Killing in Iraq is religious but instead cultural. I have a Christian Iraqi lady friend who agrees in Honor Killing. I told her that I read in the news that an Iraqi girl had been killed by her brother for being a prostitute. She said the brother was right for she had dishonored her family.
