The song Go Your Own Way by British-American rock band Fleetwood Mac was released in December 1976 as the first single from their album Rumours. Go Your Own Way was the sound of a relationship shattering in real time. Lindsey Buckingham, who wrote it while breaking up with bandmate Stevie Nicks, said that the lyrics came to him almost as a stream of consciousness, while Nicks has admitted that they angered her so much that she wanted to go over and kill him each time she sang it onstage. For the beat, Buckingham was Inspired by the drum feel of Street Fighting Man by The Rolling Stones. Recorded in three separate studios, the track was developed over a period of four months and completed through a series of overdubs. The song became a top ten hit and appeared on rolling stone magazine's list of the 500 greatest songs of all time.

In an interview in 2013, I think it was. On Top Gear, Mike Fleetwood was asked why the band is still so successful and he replied it’s because we all hate each other.

The relationships among band members was falling apart, yet they stayed together. Amazing.

A movie wouldn't do Fleetwood Mac justice, it would take a series.👍

Between this and Silver Springs, they both could write Earth-shattering breakup ballads, Fleetwood Mac's story is just so wild

Silver beautiful. Chills every time I hear it. Even better seeing it on video being performed.

Music was the only way they could communicate with each other. Their lyrics are powerful because they are filled with honesty and spirit

It’s so sad that Silver Springs wasn’t given the same opportunity to shine in the spotlight by their label, as it was cut from the original record release. Stevie wrote it, and it speaks of her/ the other side to their breakup. Watching them sing it live (on TV) in ‘97 was the reason I fell in love with this band.

My relative met her in LA and she is so down to earth and humble, she let him stay with her till he found a job. I met her in a suburb of Detroit in a night club. It was very early and empty and this young lady started talking to me. She said her name was Stevie and I told her I only knew one other Stevie and that was Stevie Nicks. She said, that’s me. I was so shocked, she is the sweetest down to earth person for being a rock goddess. Unfortunately I never asked her for her autograph ☹️💖

It's the passion while singing this song that made it so powerful. You could tell they really felt what they were performing having seen them live before. I was lucky enough to see the Tusk tour in LA when Stevie had the whole USC marching band behind her. Incredible show!

I bought many 45's when I was younger. Until 1979, at the age of 26, RUMOURS, was my first album. At 71, I stil love listening to their awesome music!❤

Definitely tough being in a relationship, breaking up and still continuing a successful musical relationship afterwards. It’s all in the music, this goes for both Stevie and Christine’s relationships. Hardworking crew right here!

Dad was a DJ at WABD across from the main gate of Ft. Campbell when this album came out. I’ll never forget seeing the Soldiers and hear those tunes.
