Brazilian Rosewood is special

One glance at Brazilian rosewood and its easy to see why its so desirable. Unfortunately this insatiable demand lead to overlogging and it’s now a threatend species. In an effort to preseve the species it was added to the list of banned materials kept by CITES in 1992 rendering the sale of any Brazilian Rosewood lumber cut after 1992 illegal. This effectively makes it impossible to reproduce a piece like this.

This piece is a snapshot of the past never to be reproduced at scale. I take a lot of pride in being able to preserve pieces of history like this.

What I did:

- Replaced broken drawer runners
- Fixed smaller blemishes with @gorksgoodfilla pre mixed rosewood water based wood filler
- Filled large voids with @jbweldDIY 2 part epoxy putty tinted with mixol Tints
- Sanded the piece with @seriousgrit sanding pads
- Polished the chrome legs with nevr-dull and Mohawk OZ polish
- stained the drawer tops with @zarfinishes baby grand
- Sealed the piece with @Zinsser Sealcoat Dewaxed Shellac
- Performed color touchups with @mohawkfinishing Blendals, powder stains, and graining pens
- Sprayed toner (Zinsser sealcoat + Transtint medium brown dye) to even out the wood tones
- Top coated the piece with @geminiindustries Evo clear – Satin Sheen
