Here we talk about the new Omega x Swatch MoonSwatch watch to be released. While the watch looks great, I believe that if they become difficult to obtain, Omega will damage their reputation within the most loyal enthusiast community. Omega and Swatch should make sure these are available for purchase.

Well, thank you to Swatch group for making me eat crow. As of April 4th, 2022, per an official response I received by e-mail from Swatch, there are "...NO plans for an online release." I take back everything I typed in my original comment (which I left unedited below). Not only is there no plan for online release, but the brick and mortar stores are not being restocked as Swatch has been stating across social media platforms. As of right now, it appears that Swatch group's intent was to dangle a fun release in front of their current & potential consumer base, and then pull the rug out from under us...?

My original comment from March 26, 2022:

100% disagree with this take. Swatch has already publicly stated that these plastic Speedys will be available for purchase online, shortly after the limited brick & mortar release, so there is no concern about them running out or not supplying enough to fill the demand. Also, this sort of watch is not meant to be a permanent fixture in a collection. It's a disposable trinket. The MoonSwatch is simply a fun PR stunt by Swatch group that has OBVIOUSLY been successful in bringing attention to both Omega and Swatch. It's not about the watch at all. I want one, and it has zero impact on my opinion/passion for the Omegas in my collection, or of Omega as a brand. People need to dial back the seriousness and just have fun with this release while it lasts. Everyone who wants a plastic Speedmaster will have a chance. Chill out.

This is Omega’s message to watch collectors and dealers: “quit creating a hype for nothing, they are just watches”. I loving this statement by Omega “Watches are supposed to be fun for everyone!”

I think its a brilliant move. Look at how it broke the internet. Look at the hype and publicity it generated. Look at all the people queueing overnight for it.
The last time i saw young people queueing overnight it was for sneakers and concert tickets.
I already own 3 Speedmasters and I'll definitely be getting a few when its available online.

There's a very real chance that these become more desirable for younger generations than actual moon watch.

The shelf life of milking something that was made cool by actors and astronauts 50-60 years ago will be up someday.

It's not Rolex mentality, it's Apple marketing . Apple marketing strategy expresses the brand in minimalist, yet highly efficient ways. Apple 7Ps of marketing is marked with a particular focus on the product element of the marketing mix and the company's segmentation targeting and positioning initiatives are aimed at targeting users of premium products like the real Omega. Since the arrival of smartphones, no one doesn't have a watch anymore. So it takes a company strong enough to revive the interest of wearing a watch and increase sales. The collector like you represent only 5% of the sales, a company like OMEGA can survive with that 5 % so they have to do something and for me it's brilliant. sale 5000 real watch a year or 5 000 000 a years plus the 5000 real one and increase the demande of the real one

I absolutely love these. I think these will be a good starting point to get the younger generation into the watch hobby. I have a nice collection of luxury watches from various brands but it was a Casio from when I was 13 (I'm 45 now) that got me into the hobby. I will probably pick up the Mars one for me and the Moon one for my 15 year old who loves my Speedy Professional.

It cheapens the brand. What's next? Toyota Corolla "Ferrari Edition"? It's time that these watch companies focus more attention on quality and less on marketing gimmicks.

This is almost like an official fake watch. I think it's a terrible marketing tactic, sabotaging their own iconic Speedmaster line.

What I think would have been better is for Omega to do a Longines and introduce a very high precision quartz line, making it unlike their other lines. Something more expensive than this new Swatch line but obviously, far cheaper than their high quality mechanical lines.

I have no interest in buying an official fake, cheap Swatch Speedmaster. I could buy a real Speedmaster but have no interest in spending that much. But maybe a high quality, high precision quartz model like Longines with their VHP line I would be interested. But unlike Longines, make a quartz line with not only very high precision, (quartz crystal with no defect), but make it also 300m water resistance.

Now that's something I would buy from Omega.

If Omega's goal is to attract a younger crowd, then limiting distribution to the point where only hardcore watch guys and flippers can buy it isnt a good idea.

For me I consider it a Swatch as it was sold by Swatch. I dont consider it to be an Omega as there are nothing like any other Omegas. For Omega to lower themselves to the Swatch consumer is a mistake in my opinion.

Very much disagree with this take.. I'm a proud Omega owner and I only see this as a good thing.. what is the entire watch collecting world talking about right now? Omega! If these new cheap offerings are not readily available, that only proves that demand for watches is high and that the conquest has been successful. It will plant the seed in a lot of people's minds to eventually seek owning the real ones, furthering the Brand's customer base in the future.
