2021 Update: Y'all don't need to recommend other ways to wash my hair or other methods to make the dye last longer ^.^"" I've been dyeing my hair pink for many, many years and Directions is by far the worst brand I've ever used. My hair was healthy before I used it and after I stopped using it, and other brands have kept the color in my hair for a lot longer. If Directions works for you, awesome! When I made this video, I just wanted to talk about how Directions wasn't a good brand for me.

The product is a semi-permanent, that’s why it gets lighter after a couple washes

Your hair looks more bleach damaged, Directions wouldn't dry out your hair as it's quite conditioning... If your hair is bleach damaged it will come out as the colour can't penetrate properly.

Directions is my fave hair dye
any other dye literally is gone after 1 wash, though the purple hair dyes from directions suck
but obviously it's going to fade, it's semi-permanent, every colorful hair dye fades, seems pretty normal to me

You might have over bleached your hair. Colour won't stick very well to frazzled hair, the only way to get your hair condition better is using a hair mask. Aussie works really well. The only other choice if that doesn't work is cutting it all off unfortunately. (Coming from someone who has f-up their hair this way)

I love Directions. It is so vibrant, their color range is great, I like that is vegan, it makes my hair so soft, and it lasts me a long time. I dyed my hair turquoise back when I was in high school and it stayed blue for a solid 3 months.

Sea water will make it come out too. Same with any direct dyes with don't contain peroxide. This is normal. Your hair is lovely damaged by bleaching

That dye cant damage your hair.
Too much conditioner can strip your hair quicker tho

I've tried several colours from the directions range and I must say, while I agree with most tipps regarding this video, Flamingo Pink just isn't very long lasting if you use it in it's non-diluted color and actually want this vibrant pink. Carnation is the worst in terms of lasting color (let's not talk about that freaking yellow that lasts 2 hair washes) but Flamingo Pink is great for pastell pink hair when diluted with conditioner. I think if you had used Cerise with conditioner mixed in, you wouldn't be disappointed. I'm not sure what dyes and products you used before but as others already pointed out, directions are semi-permanent, therefore not a hairdye (in the conventional sense). How the color looks like in the container will NOT look like your hair after you washed it for a while, you always have to go a bit darker or color it again.

Directions does it I have it on atm from last night, and it has made it extremely soft! Everyone's hairs different yes and am aware that it will fade really quickly but if you want something new try out live hair colour or permanent ones

Yet I'm sitting here over a month later with this bright green by La Riche Directions?

1 question and 1 advice
1 i read that other dyes stayed in your hair longer then this one. Was is a light or dark color. since lighter colours are already diluted
I try the darkest bleu, purple red, etc knowing it will fade to the lighter colour i desire (or dilute some myself and use extra dye and hair mask as a tinted (leave in) conditioner ala overtone )

2 you said you condition then shampoo then condion again.. my advoce is stop doing that ! Keep hair dry with a shower cap as much as possible when its wash day...after your done showering then take of shower cap and wash hair with conditioner (not shampoo!) And only massage scalp and rinse out.if you must use shampoo dilute it in a empty bottle with 1 part shampoo on 4 parts water.. use (home made) tinted conditioner and use a sealant oil like jojoba canola grape seed safflower sunflower etc ( research penetrating oils vs sealing oils) after you moisturized your hair. (When its realy dry use your conditioner don't rince it all out and then put your sealant oil on wet hair and let air dry
Why?!?

while peconditioning is amazing and necessary for kinky coily hair ( african hair and even curly caucasian hair type 3 and 4 ) semi permanent hair dye rinses out ! each time it gets wet! (not just when washed ! ) so if you rinse your hair 3 times on wash day.... and do that max twice a week and you shower normally every day that means it rinces out 11 times a week (rain and swimming not counted)

Even with dye that does preform to your liking these tips can help keep your hair in that honeymoon phase colour longer

I like directions myself but yeah some shades wash out so fast, tip is to mix it with maria nila color refresh (or use only that but it’s more expensive that’s why I mix it haha), it made the color last longer and my hair feel softer and healthier than only using directions.

I think its that particular shade and the fact that your hair is not picking up colour cause its damaged from the bleach. I've tried many colours from them and im always happy except for this pink

That's not the dye that's the shampoo and conditioner you are using. I highly recommend using colour goddess bedhead hair shampoo and conditioner as it is one of the recommended brands to use when having vivid hair colours. It has helped my hair grow as mine used to be as short as yours is now and now it's almost to my shoulder blades after 1 year. Also if you are bleaching your hair you should only be bleaching the roots if you are keeping the same colour. Wella hair is the best bleach to use and is what hair salons use.

Did you wash it with warm water? It fades faster than washing it with sulfate free shampoo (which I noticed you did) and warm water. Wash it with cold or lukewarm water, makes the color stay longer.

I literally just used it today in the turquoise color and washed it once and its pastel, it looks pretty I really like it but I have a mohawk, if i want it up I'm gonna have to put it down and the dye will strip completely in like 3 days.

You should use one bottle for the entire hair, if you don't add enough hair dye, it won't last. Plus this way of washing hair: again, of course it will fade faster. It also depends on the hair structure and the dye itself. The water is very important too. I know people who can't get rid of the color from their hair when it comes to Directions or Manic panic. I prefer Directions than Manic panic, since it is not as chemical for my hair, at least that's how I feel it.
