5:45 it's the same with the frankenstein collection and smashed. It's a particular thing and then a few stories as extra. I don't see that as a negative personally. Unless it's Uzumaki, Gyo or No Longer Human it's always shorter stories or a long form thing made up of short stories (Tomie or the haunted house in Smashed). Glad you enjoyed it regardless. Personally I love even his short 4 page stories like "The Sad Tale of Principal Post", I think most of the time he's trying to convey a philosophical idea but the story can also just be read as a scary or gross scenario. I own all of his Viz books except Lovesickness which isn't out in Europe until next month, I'm hyped for it. Keep reading him there are definitely some gems to discover. There's a standalone story out in September called Sensor and a collection next year called Deserter. Imo his only bad work is Dissolving classroom, honestly could lose it from his books and not miss it.

I am pretty sure you will also love "Venus in the blind spot" collection as well. It's really creepy and impactful. Currently I am reading Smashed and I am enjoying a lot.

After you read a bunch of them (wooo boy, there’s a lot to recommend), you should check out no longer human. It’s his take on a very popular book in Japan and it is really

I started with Uzumaki either last year or this year (can't remember) on the recommendation of a friend. I've read almost all of his work since

I've never had any chances to read Junji Ito
even though I'm Japanese and grew up with mangas and anime.
where did you get those books anyway?
Please be careful!

I completely agree with your opinion on Lovesickness. My first Junji Ito manga was Uzumaki and that was truly a masterpiece so I had high hopes going into Lovesickness. Although I enjoyed reading the manga, I was definitely thrown off by the second collection of stories after the crossroads fortune ones. It definitely could’ve been separate from the other stories as you said. Also WTF WAS THAT POOP CHAPTER LMAOOO it FELT LIKE A FEVER DREAM WHILE READING it.
