caesura

In music, a caesura can be described as an interruption to the normal tempo of a song. In a conversation, a caesura can be the space filled by a short silence or a deep breath. In an essay, it can simply be a pause between words.

A caesura can be very brief, right before the beat drops again.

This gap, this space, this absence of its previous pattern is sometimes a conscious act where one shows that they care about what is to come next. They give it thought. This somehow brings a predictable spontaneity and an element of surprise to the listener. Before the beat drops in a song, we know it is coming and we can sometimes predict when, yet we are still surprised and have the euphoria take over when the beat arrives.

What comes after a caesura can supersede or fail to meet expectations for the other party, however, I do believe that this tiny space is essential to a message that is rightfully crafted.
