【Profile】
BABYMETAL【SU-METAL (Vocal,Dance) / YUIMETAL (Scream,Dance) / MOAMETAL (Scream,Dance) 】

Formed in 2010. Their major debut single “ Ijme, dame, zettai" along with 2nd single “Megistune" both ranked in the Top 10 Oricon chart in Japan. In March 2014, they took to the stage of Nippon Budokan for a 2-Days gig making them the youngest female act to ever perform there. Their 1st studio album BAYBMETAL made it into the US Billboard chart. In summer of the same year, they embarked on their first World Tour, performing on the Main Stage at UK’s prodigious festival Sonisphere Festival 2014 in front of 65,000 festival goers, and supporting Lady Gaga on her “ArtRave: The Artpop Ball” 2014 Tour. In fall they were back for additional headline shows in Hammerstein Ballroom, New York City and O2 Academy Brixton, London. In January 2015, they headlined a show at the 20,000 capacities Saitama Super Arena, and in June 2015, they headlined a show at the 25,000 capacities Makuhari Messe. In summer of 2015, BABYMETAL received awards from prominent UK music magazines “Kerrang!” and “METAL HAMMER”. They then performed in front of a staggering 90,000 people at the prestigious Reading and Leeds Festival in August. This December, BABYMETAL are to take the stage again for 2 consecutive days at Japan’s Yokohama Arena pulling a total of 26,000 people before returning to the UK in April 2016 to headline London’s The SSE Arena, Wembley. BABYMETAL's ‘Metal Resistance’ is rapidly expanding across the globe.

to think they were 16 years old playing in front of a European metal festival that is not used to j-pop. the courage they had to dance and sing is insane. so much respect.

It's impossible not to notice Mikio Fujioka's joy. That smile will always be remembered. R.I.P.

この映像の何が凄いのか?を簡単に解説。

この頃は海外では話題にはなりつつも
メタルファンからはイロモノ的な認知で
憎悪や軽蔑すらされており

それも僅か10代の女の子達が日本語なのにもかかわらず。

OK, some background. The song title actually means "No More, Bullying, Forever". It was the ending song at this show, where they managed to turn an epic FAIL into an epic victory.
- This was their first tour outside of Japan, and their first UK show
- They booked a small stage but, for an unknown reason, they were moved to the main stage at the last minute. Instead of 3-5 thousand of their loyal fans they faced 30-50 thousand (?) trve metalheads.
- This was a crowd waiting for Ghost, Deftones, Anthrax, and Iron Maiden. 90% of them knew absolutely nothing about BM.
- BM released their debut album just a few months before. All the above mentioned bands had several albums and decades of history behind them.
- They were girls between 14-16, all their songs had backing tracks, they sang not in English (the only other metal band that could get away with it recently was Rammstein). The backing band was made up of session musicians. The girls were singing about chocolate, and they were playing hide and seek on the stage, literally. They already had their own made up religion about the Fox God, and their hand sign was mocking the devil's horns.
- This was NOT metal at all. They were nobodies and they didn't belong on the main stage of a metal festival. But, they knew it well, and they expected to get booed and bottled. There's a backstage photo of the girls before the show and their faces read "WE ARE F*CKED" And they went on the stage and Yui's hoodie got stuck in her hair, Moa's headset did not work and she missed the opening moves of the choreo. There was a close up of Yui's face on the projector screen at this moment, she saw what was happening, and for a moment her expression was like "ok, forget it, NOW we are f*cked..."
- You can see in your video that Yui's skirt also started to fall apart at the last song, IDZ.
- So what else happened? The crowd got a taste of the band at the soundcheck and they loved it. Then there was an epic (or ridiculous ?) Star-Wars style video intro showed on the screen. The first song started and 30 seconds later there were moshpits forming. In the next song, Gimme Chocco, there was a call-and-respond where Su effortlessly made the crowd sing the chorus in Japanese. Next came the solos and everybody shat themselves. Then the song titled Catch Me If You Can, then their women-empowering song, and then the ending song you saw. The biggest circle pits and WOD's of the festival.
- Everybody was talking about them, and their T-shirts were top sellers even two days later.
- If there's an epic entrance to the genre, this is it.

Geez... first concert outside of Japan and in front of what was it like 50, 000 people? The amount of courage and strength to go out there, at that age, and show the world who you are... that is what makes Babymetal special to me. Just look at them now!

当時、一般的なアイドルと一線を画し
評価された理由のひとつは
「可愛い私を見て」という空気を一切出さずに
パフォーマンスに全力であったからだと思う。

This performance will be, forever, the most beautiful and courageous jump without a parachute by three of the loveliest girls possible.

This is the stage that changed the history of Japan's metal scene in the West during the 2010s.

I am a 62 year old metalhead and this brought tears to my eyes. Now i didn't understand that so i took the time figure out why.
1. These girls are incredibly brave to do what they do. To perform at that age before this crowd is superhuman.
2. The performance is of a level that all dancers/singers dream of.
3. The music is flawlessly blending with the message of this song, which gives it a dramatic quality that is absolutely unique.

I'm so honered as a Japanese, that these three girls accompnied by an awsome band, got to perform in front of so many people overseas, and brought to them so much excitment. Not just that, but it 's the UK these girls are performing at. A land full of rock and metal fans, culture, and history.
It's a pity we can never again see the show by the same band, RIP to Fujioka.
