This was the F-14 Tomcat's job. It could stay and watch the Bear bomber for a long time

This has been going on since the end of WWII.

I was in the IO when our carrier was buzzed by a bear flying below deck level on the port side. Don't think they can't get close. They can. But it was awesome!!!

Proud of our military men and women. They guard the wall while I sleep safe each night. Thank you

This was a non-event. Armed, military aircraft don't need to be within a mile, or 10 miles, or even 100 miles to hazard any "enemy" assets, such as ships or bases. This is part of the game that Russia (and the former U.S.S.R.) and the U.S. have played with each other for decades.

Having an aircraft carrier OVER the pacific is a hell of a capability.

I was a Bosn mate on the Kitty Hawk we ran over a Russian submarine and 2 Mexican fishing boats. Bears over head were a common occurrence I’ve seen pictures from the Connie the entire flight deck mooned them

America: Don’t touch my fucking boats or you’ll end up like Japan! Russia: Don’t interfere with my geopolitical movements or you’ll end up like Germany!

The aircraft carrier and support vessels are SHIPS (not boats);
USS (as in USS Missouri) stands for United States Ship.

Thats a Tupelov T-95, the Bear. Aircraft identification and recognition is imperative

Could just have the Guided Missile Cruiser ‘Lock-On’ and try another radio call. See if you have their attention yet.

I was in the Navy VF-191; an F-8 fighter squadron on board the U S S Oriskany. Russian Bears flew into our area several times. We launched several fighter jets and escorted the Bears away. This happens frequently.
