I’ve done # 1 multiple times. It works. An easy way to do it is
1. Write it
2. Stash it somewhere in your home where no one will find it
3. Put a notification on your calendar when you want to read it (should be enough time that you forget about it)
4. Put the location of where it is in the notification. (Using an electronic calendar is best)

The old photo thing is very true. I have gotten rid of boxes of a lifetime of photos, and probably 98% of my life mementoes. Mostly because of past narcissistic abuse, but it has made my future much better, and I no longer have anxiety or bad feelings about the past. It really has helped me to concentrate on the future.
