The Mola Mola is on par with the Scarlatti, Vivaldi spec wise and got very nice inner detail and micro dynamics och sounds slightly richer than dCS house sound. The dCS is slightly more neutral to the source whereas the Mola Mola shape the sound more than the dCS because of the PWM upsampling and using different filtering.

So do you want a dac that sounds as good as an Vivaldi, but slightly different and richer, then look for the Mola Mola.

I am using a Chord DAVE, Mola Mola and a dCS Paganini modified with dual transformers, one for analogue and one for the digital side like the dCS Scarlatti, and sounds the most neutral and flat of these 3 dacs i own, but lack slightly micro dynamics against the other two, where the Mola Mola is the micro dynamic winner. 🥇

Let's hope DCS doesn't sue you.

Hey Drew,
Don't worry, the new $250K DCS DAC has been announced. Would love to see someone explain how you "get what you pay for" with that one. The Intent of the brand signal us as to what's important to them.
Great vid !

Metal cutting does not improve the sound - mass helps, but fancy CNC machinery just add cost

Looks like something Denafrips would make but with a DCS logo. Most likely it will sound in sound/with decent black levels. But most likely not natural. But around 15k USD in my country is totally insane. This should only cost 2-5k USD maximum to buy with this level of parts. Space engineering chasis they can keep themselves.

What a piece of engineering marvel! Innovation and quality isn't free and you get what you pay for. This makes deep diving of the design and quality of a gear that much more important and unfortunately not that many high price gears would disclose enough relevant information to aid purchase decision.

Given the “controversy” between DCS and Golden Sound …I just shook my head …not everyone likes everything..and hitting up a review from years ago …was wtf .
Personally, the Bartok I was able to use a while ago ..was in my opinion absolutely stunning…my friend thought it was good but not $25k good …different strokes for different folks.
No doubt, it’s a freak’n miracle of modern engineering and manufacturing that’s pretty impressive.
Again …a lottery ticket win away ..but I can dream .
Have a great weekend.

sorry I don't buy from companies that try to bully reviewers regardless how good the product is

Watch out what you say, you may have a legal notice envelope on your doorstep tomorrow morning.

Imagine if they separated the analog and digital power supplies with multiple transformers (like most companies do with proper engineering). I hope I won’t get sued.

Interesting to see dCS going "forward" with other reviewers to show something like that, after all the negative rumors ;-) Anyway, I think it is pretty cool to allow to show device insides, but as an engineering-geek as you said, I'd say these CNC is legacy and just blending a bit too much. Of course not just dCS, every more High-/Ultri-Fi brand is doing that, no shame on that! I see very rarely any Lina here in Europe/Germany, as it is way too expensive the market they address, because originally they have targeted UltraFi-Headphone geeks with that, where they didn't get that many ultra-positive reviews. Overall they have done a good foundation, but as any other HighEnd DAC vendor with smal-form-factors, like Mola Mola or Weiss, this is not exceptional and in the price segment with the additional PSU, not attractive at all for any 2channel DAC seekers. I stick with my Grimm Audio MU2 ;-) THANKS FOR SHOWING THAT!!

Very impressive construction but I'm not impressed by the amount of waste that has resulted in what is basically a headphone system. How does dCS stack up against Lavry these days? As I remember, Lavry was the ne-plus-ultra of digital processing equipment two decades back but are they a non-entity today? Or has dCS overtaken them?

Hats off to the design and electronic engineers.

So, silent equipment is something unique in high end world?

Good video. Too bad the brand destroyed their reputation with future customers.

All the people saying no to DCS, you obviously don't have the money and are on the same bandwagon, so stuff it and go buy your chifi 😅

Gustard internals look almost as impressive for a fraction of the price, and still the same harsh ESS Dac chip. For both high tech and natural sound, look at Teac UD-701N.

It is a very well thought out design. The access points for repairs is phenomenal. Very well built. I respect the hell out of this design. Serious engineering. Drew. I hope you do more videos like this. ❤
