Russia says 'scary' Trump remarks on Greenland have European leaders 'reacting very cautiously'

Russia has responded to President-elect Donald Trump after he expressed a desire Tuesday for the U.S. to acquire the Danish territory of Greenland in his upcoming second term.
Trump’s remarks have been shut down by Greenland itself and criticized by world leaders all across Europe. Speaking Thursday, Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov said, “it’s scary to react to Trump's words, so Europe is reacting very cautiously, modestly, quietly, almost in a whisper.”
Though Peskov offered no support or critique for Trump’s suggestion that the U.S. needs Greenland for “economic security,” he revealed that Moscow considers the Arctic “a zone of our national and strategic interests,” adding that Russia is “interested in preserving an atmosphere of peace and stability” there.
Trump’s controversial statement came as his son, Donald Trump Jr., visited the Greenlandic capital, Nuuk, in a private Trump jet.
