This is what Sinead O’Connor said during one of her first interviews after converting to Islam in 2018 at 52 years old and changing her name to Shuhada Sadaqat.

The celebrated Irish singer & musician passed yesterday, 26 July, at the age of 56.

Speaking to chat show host Ryan Tubridy on The Late Late Show on Ireland’s RTE channel in 2019, she described becoming Muslim as “coming home” after years of reading spiritual texts in her search for truth and peace.

The Irish singer, best known for her cover of Prince’s ‘Nothing Compares 2 U’, is also known for having vocal left-wing politics, including condemning child abuse in the Catholic Church, and supporting Palestinian rights and boycotts of Israel.

Whether she was a Catholic or a Muslim, that woman was a gift to the world. She will be missed by people across the globe. A truly beautiful spirit.

You were such a big part of my youth growing up in Ireland back in the 1980’s, I’m glad you found what you were searching for in Islam. God bless you Sinead, you can finally rest in peace with you’re beloved son x

This happened to me too SubhanAllah. I was in my garden one day and just in a second I went from being a hardcore atheist to feeling like this. Within a minute or so I decided to go straight to the closest mosque to find someone who could tell me how to become muslim. Completely divine experience. SubhanAllah

I love her, her music has touched my life…..but as someone who spoke out so much about oppression, and oppression of women as well…..she really missed on this. I miss her voice, she was one of the most beautiful ever imo

Shame on us as humans who loved her music she died as a tormented human. All she was doing was looking for God, and she gave us the most beautiful music at the end. All we did was criticize her.
She had balls bigger than any man I know

Sadly, Islam isn't the truth either Sinead. Jesus said: 'I am the way, the Truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father but by Me.' John 14:6.

All these hateful people in the comments hurt to read. I'm agnostic, was raised by Atheist, and to me, it doesn't matter if she was mentally ill. Some people need to have faith in something, and that's OK. Why anyone would judge another for what choices they made in how they practice religion, if any, especially after they passed and have gone on to whatever afterlife they believe in or exists, if any, is beyond me. I don't understand how any human being could have so much hate in their heart to judge someone just for what they choose to wear or believe in.

As everyone knows, she's a very disturbed woman. Had miserable childhood, mistreated and abused in her early ages, no father at home, mother was an abusive drug addict. So, it's understandable she seeked comfort in religion (no matter what ). Now, "you realise you were a muslim all your life!??." Well, I never felt that. And I won't. Never. I'll never betrayal my religion.
