Vocal Coach Reaction to Radiohead - Creep - Ken Tamplin

The British rock band Radiohead was originally called On A Friday, named for the day they would meet for practice while in school together. They later came up with the name Radiohead from the Talking Heads song “Radio Head”

Lead singer Thom Yorke says he was inspired to become a rock star after seeing Queen guitarist Brian May on television.

Their song “Creep” was released as their debut single in 1992 and went on to become a worldwide hit.

Apparently the song is about a girl who rejected Thom Yorke the lead singer. He developed feelings for her at a distance and followed her for a while when he was studying at Exeter University. So he did take on the actual role of a “creep”. In the end she wound up rejecting him and so provided the inspiration for the song.

As of 2011 the band had sold more than 30 million albums worldwide. Their work is seen by both listeners and critics as some of the best music of the 1990s and 2000s. They were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2019.

Here’s my reaction to “Creep”, let me know your feedback!

Hi guys. I misspoke attributing "Air That I Breathe" to Air Supply. Indeed, that song was originally performed by The Hollies. That song was written by Albert Hammond and Mike Hazlewood. Radiohead was threatened with an aggressive lawsuit and settled out of court. Hammond and Hazlewood received writing credit for "Creep". I'm just reacting and sometimes have to do some fact checking afterward. " I knew I heard it somewhere..."

Radiohead - Street Spirit would be a better reaction in terms of vocals. There’s some awesome early live versions worth checking

One of my favorite warmup songs. If I can't nail the transition from falsetto to belting at "she run, I know I still have warming up to do!

I highly rec reacting to Fake Plastic Trees and "Radiohead - Nude - Live From The Basement [HD]
". The former is imo his best vocal performance, but The Bends album has a ton of Yorke's best vocals like Sulk, Bullet Proof etc.

Judging by this the 90’s aren’t your jam. I get that and enjoy your channel. I’m not sure equating him to a serial killer was necessary. 🤷‍♀️

Radiohead my favourite band of all time (within Alternative movement), and Thom Yorke such a great singer. Please react to something live by them Ken. Please. Lots of love.

It's really funny you compared Thom to Jim Morrison since in the song "Anyone Can Play Guitar" Thom pokes fun at Jim Morrison and people idolizing him

Thank you for the review.
You smiled and laughed through a dark song - because it is a piece of theater. You understand that.

I appreciate you.

The song was written by the lead singer and it is about the shame he had for stalking a girl from afar when he was younger .

Great reaction but I think the point was missed about what the song is about (The Jim Morrison reference was on point). It’s not about being creepy per se, but how marginalized people are viewed as abnormal by the “beautiful people”, and more importantly, how people view themselves as a result of bullying, criticism and judgment from said people.

I think that’s why a lot of people responded to the song and why so many still do to this day.

It’s no funny bout feeling this kind of emotion. This is song is so depressive for me. I admire a woman in our class and this song just really hurts “ You’re so special I wish i was special” it like you don’t have the strength to tell her how you really feel about her because deep down you know that you’re gonna be ignored. It’s just hurts a lot.

Lmao Ken you were totally cracking me up with that serial killer muahaha laugh and all of that. I think that Thom Yorke shows a lot of vulnerability in his voice, I like how you said it he's good at selling his emotions with his voice. Thanks for your reaction. Incidentally, two of the m members of the Hollies ( that was the band which charted that single "All I Need Is The Air That I Breathe" not Air Supply) were credited with writing credits in this song after legal action. Love the shirt Coach. Have a blessed day.
