Why should you pick Fiio BTR5 over Shanling UP4 and UA1 and vice-versa

I have the Fiio BTR5 and BTR3K, I think they're pretty great and enjoy using them. I wish I had learned about them earlier, I would not have bought so many wireless headphones and earbuds if I had. I'm looking out for a small slim dongle dac for occasional use, the UA1 might be ideal.

I had bought the Fiio BTR5 I had to return it. It kept losing connection. When it works it sounds really really good. But very bad connection issues.

Shanling up4 can be used as usb dac on phones. I did it by using my own type c to usb cable and an a female usb to male type c adapter (given by Samsung in mu note 8 box but any adapater shud do) . Take the type c end and plug it into the shanling up4 charging port. Then take the usb end and plug it into the usb to type c adapater. Finally, plug the type c adapter end into the type c port of your phone. Turn the up4 on and DONE.

Overall you will NEED:

1. Normal usb to type c cable
2. Female usb to male type c adapter.


It's not the most user friendly thing but its better than nothing. I am planning to buy a type c to type c otg cable and some say its for audio devices so maybe I'll update this comment if it works when i get it. Comment a reply if u wanna remind me to update.

Hey! Nice review. Is Fiio BTR5 not that good even with dual dacs? Compared to something like ibasso dc02 dongle dac/amp?

How about the balanced output? Also is wired better than UA1?

Lastly, how does this compare to 5k?

Nice comparison. How are fiio btr5 and Shanlin up4 compared to the same dac chip used in LG g8x? Is there any reason to buy these if someone is using LG quad dac.

Can you recommend? I’m choosing between a neutral dongle dac : Hiby Fc3, Shanling ua2, Audirect Beam 2se, Tempotec Sonata Hd Pro or an Android DAP that is neutral/ balanced: LG or anything you know? Not too warm and not too bright... Just right to pair with different iems..,

I have samsung m21 and it does have a audiojack. Should i buy a dac amp? I have hifiman re400 and ve monks which i will run from my phone. Right now hi-res audio doesn't make a difference from my phone

Spec wise I love UA2 or Hidizs z9 pro but i think they will suck the juice like crazy.

PS : I'm not an audiophile per say just want to improve my music experience with a bit more immersive sound experience better staging n seperation and distance btw instruments and vocals... Listing on phone feels as if instruments and vocals are all coming from front and that too are crowded...

I don't have high end headphones /earphone... Planning to buy kz zst.. what would be a satisfactory n affordable way to improve music experience w.o shelling out too much money...

I don’t use bluetooth, I use only wired headphones. Now I listen to music on an iphone. Can you recommend a dap that will play music better than the Iphone? I play 256k AAC files, no hi res supported.

UP4 and UA1 regarding pure sound quality?

Great video. The UP4 does work as a USB DAC on phones but it's far from being a simple plug and play experience.

The way I've done it is plug in with a USB C to USB C cable (it doesn't come with one) while the UP4 is off. If you have UAPP it will ask to connect but obviously there will be no sound output as it's powered off. Power on UP4. If Bluetooth is switched on at the phone it will automatically connect UP4 in Bluetooth mode by default so manually disconnect or turn Bluetooth off. Now UP4 will work as USB DAC, if it's not fully charged it will charge from the phone.

I don't know if it only works like this with the firmware update as I don't remember trying it before update.
