FFXI - Manananggal (Abyssea - Tahrongi Qutrub NM) - WHM Solo

Manananggal (what a mouthful!) is an invisible Quatrub NM that wanders between J-11 and I-12. He can be found on Wide Scan and will appear when aggro'd (either by getting close of via low HP aggro). This NM has two modes, one when his weapon is drawn and the other when he attacks you with his fist.

When his weapon is drawn is his most dangerous phase. His weapon delay is incredibly high, but that is offset by the incredible damage he can out put in a single hit. This NM can one shot most unsuspecting prey, especially if it triple attacks. A triple attack at 1.1K damage per hit is atrociously strong and caution should be taken when aggroing this NM as he begins with weapon drawn.

As such, keeping Blink and Stoneskin up while pulling will help mitigate the risk. Once his first swing is completed, you can pretty much keep Blink up our Flash at appropriate times to make its attacks miss you entirely. Riding full PDT while weapon drawn is highly recommended.

His other mode is when weapon is sheathed. He gains high triple attack frequency compounded with very low delay for multiple attacks back to back. Fortunately, his attack power takes a significant dive and is easy to mitigate with a few spot cures combined with Regen IV.

He is a DRK, so he has the ability to Blood Weapon multiple times and cast some DRK spells which are of no interest. Just be wary of Animating Wail as the haste effect can make him swing faster than you would expect. Paralyze seems to do little to him except for interrupt his casting, so I don't bother with keeping it up.
