Crusader Kings 3: Royal Court DLC Review

Crusader Kings III: Royal Court DLC reviewed on PC by Leana Hafer.

Whether I'm creating new melting pot cultures, decorating my throne room, or throwing lavish parties to make sure everyone remembers how important I am, Royal Court goes beyond tacking on some new mechanics to the already excellent Crusader Kings 3. It weaves iron into the very fibers of the base game and makes it feel more complete and cohesive. And rather than focus on one region, all the pillars and ethoses added by the new culture system make it feel like a flavor pack for the entire world. It's the best kind of grand strategy expansion, and while it leaves dukes and tribal rulers feeling a bit left out in the rain as they can't access most of these new systems, I wouldn't want to ever play without it.

"Like it was meant to be here all along."
-all Paradox expansions in a nutshell

It's mind boggling that the team at Paradox didn't bother to improve the performance when moving the camera in what is - let's be honest here - a very simple 3D scene.
This is the first major content pack since the game came out in September 2020...

"Tribal court expansion! ($15.99)" - Paradox, 9 months time

That framerate when the camera is moving around the court is horrific

The fact the main attraction of the whole DLC stutters like hell in even a beefy PC is kinda... concerning tbh, hope they iron out the performance issues in time tho... people asked for weeks how the performance was in the court and the devs always just said it was choppy because they werent on a powerful rig so... yeah kinda shitty.

Oh great another essential dlc from paradox that costs almost as much as the game

Since the game is part sim, you can understand why tribal rulers would be at a significant disadvantage in lots of ways. Also, if your Duke wants a royal court he is just going to have to do and get a royal title.

Overpriced for what is offered. Also there should be double the amount of court types available given it's the main attraction.

Beefy PC

1. (Noun) Powerful computer

2. (Noun) Often outdated computer that relies on frozen beefs to keep cooled down while running modern games

"On my beefy pc" - IGN. Probably beefy by 2015 standards.

Wait so is it worth buying if you mainly play as a Count or Duke and you're not melding cultures???

Weird review… glaring graphical glitches, absolutely horrid performance for such a non demanding setting (technically speaking), is only available for a select few ruling classes (thus limiting your options), has a very limited range of visual options to customize the room (pretty bad considering it’s the main attraction), severely pricy considering it should have been on the base game…

Gets a 9…?

It's looks just like what they promised! Just don't know why it took so long / was announced so early / costs so much. Should be a free update.
