Tech Talk Tuesday: Differences in Classic Mopar Long Tube Headers

preview_player
Показать описание
When it comes to long tube headers for your classic Mopar muscle car, there are really two types: the cheap ones that are a real pain to install and have terrible ground clearance, and the expensive ones that are pretty easy to install and have minimal ground clearance issues. I discuss the differences in this video.

Just installed TTI Headers on my 67 440 Belvedere and they fit great.

Long ago, in a galaxy far away, I had a 73 cuda. I dropped a 1968 340 engine into it. I installed a set of Eagle Gold Label headers. It's been a really long time since then, but I believe they were long tube headers. They had 14 gauge steel pipes. Then I installed a set of zoomies with chrome extensions! They were like side pipes, but they bolted directly to the headers and ran under the car, then came out with four tubes in front of the rear tires. They looked great.

hi you mentioned options you can and cannot have with long tube headers. I currently have a 1969 Charger R/T 440 with a four speed no A/C. I like the Doug's headers and am considering the expensive stainless steel ones. Iv'e already got the starter issue figured, based on your recommendation. I was wondering if could think of any other issues I might run into during installation. Im wondering about the steering box. Is that something that needs changing as well? Anyway let me know.

A mini starter is way better than the old starters. And you can just get one at the parts store and they work fine. Because they're all the same you just order one for a 360 or 318 out of a newer van or truck they bolt right up you might have to change the connection but it's very easy to put one in

Would a 2 inch primary header be ok for a 440 with under 450hp? Was told a 1/78inch is more ideal but the header I want only sells 2inch

Great video!!!! I have a 1968 Plymouth Satellite 318 auto with column shift. With these high end headers you've mentioned (Doug's, TTI or Hooker Super Comp) do you know if you have to re-route the shift linkage to clear the headers? thanks

When using the more expensive headers are you able to R&R the starter without loosening or partially removing the headers?

Doug's Headers are now made in Mexico, and absolute CRAP. Just unboxed a set and was so angry I about hit the ceiling. Mating surfaces aren't machined, primary tubes overhanging the flanges, welds look like bird droppings. Taking them back tomorrow.
