I don't watch the pro tour, but "prize money" + "making your own line calls" = "chaos"

I bought my first wide body paddle from Ross for 16 bucks and its the wilson juice v2. Coming from playing ping pong at a national level no one ever told me that a widebody is the closest thing feel wise to ping pong. I have 20 paddles, some costing almost 300 dollars and my new favorite is that cheap wilson. Inspired me to order the joola scorpeus pro 16mm. Cant wait to try that one out!

As an edge guard protection freak - you may look into the clear tape that hockey players use to wrap their sticks. You can get glossy or matte, and that helps protect the edges, adds a touch of weight, but also doesn't mess with colors. Got a gradient or gold edge guard? You can still see it!

FYI: Last year’s debut of the Blaze series (e.g. Pro/Tour) was Wilson’s intro into competitive pickleball paddles.

The difference between the Blaze Pro and the Vesper 14 is that the frame on the Vesper is made out of graphite - filled with foam - which provides more stability and helps to dampen vibrations while offering better comfort than the Blaze. Overall, their power and control levels are very similar.

Wonder if the Wilson is similar to OM pickleball paddles. OM uses a racket frame (like tennis) for their paddles.

Love the Nexus ProStar in the background! All the paddles in the back are great, but I always get people asking me about the ProStar cause of the blue surface. Lol

Few perspectives here regarding salary:

1. I went to college early 2000’s and had 2 good buddies play MLS. During 2001ish (realize this was pre Beckham) very few men made $100k. Avg salaries were $50kish and many guys made $25k and had to work a second job. MLS took a very conservative approach to growing (despite there being so many teams now). And it wasn’t until Beckham came along that guys started getting paid more.
2. Now…while I think thank worked for MLS (paying guys low), you hit the mail on the head with travel and pickleball. Becuase it’s not a team thing and it’s tournament based, it’s going to be VERY hard for these guys to travel and have low salaries…especially when we see the same people winning tournaments each week. People will become frustrated and stop playing
3. And I think then what happens is we see less competition in pickleball. Nobody I will want to go pro if they think they can’t win. Why grind and practice and lose money if you don’t think there will be opportunities.
4. And if the pro scene dies, this will be why. I don’t hate the gauranteed contracts hoe they’ve been, but clearly it’s not really working. But then because the sport is so new, and it’s not like you’re going to have this endless pipeline of players coming up theu college, etc. to feed into the pros. Again, the sport won’t grow from a pro perspective if youth don’t think there’s opportunities. What the answer is I don’t know, but unlike tennis that has a long history, pickle is so new that it’s trying to do something very difficult - build the pro and youth game at the same time and establish some sort of pipeline of continuous talent into the pro game…. Because unless you got money like a Paris Todd or something, I just don’t see players wanting to grind for nothing..

Will you pllease give your opinion regarding Joola Scorpeus IV 16mm vs. 11six 24 Pegasus (ignore cost difference)? I love both and seem to play more with the Joola but it is a close call for me.

Perhaps the ppa could add a travel stipend on top of the salaries to help limit attrition.

Coming from an olympus and about to buy a joola hyperion, do you think 16 mm is fine?

Coming from a TFG2... Would you say the Hyperion 14/16mm would be better for me? I played with the Vapor Power and really loved how it played and resetting was pretty easy as the paddle did most of the work if I had the paddle face properly placed. Wondering if the 120+ more for the joola is worth it when I can purchase a used for barely a month one for $140 (vapor power)

The new pay structure will for sure thin the field. That VESPER looks like the OM AERO.
Got the THOMPSON when it first released and took off the handle and added a Hesacore.
Good luck getting in at BCO.

The best Pickleball paddle is the one that suits your game and your physical characteristics (e.g. like what handle circumference is easier for you or what weight you will be comfortable with etc.) - step 1: watch the reviews and shortlist paddles. step 2: go to the store and get demo paddles (and if they don't have demo paddles, at least physically hold them, swing them etc.) ... I bought Joola Agassi Pro 16 after going to the store - despite what some reviewers suggested, like the shape is funny/weird, 14 inch paddle plays better etc.... and I am really enjoying it. But the reviews are important (thats why so many of them exist :)), and I was asking reviewers questions on comparisons among some of the paddles (to help me short list).

Which paddle would you guys recommend to someone looking for more affordable power: Chorus Supercourt X series or Vatic Saga 14mm?

Another great video. Do you have to get permission to use the gold over grips on any paddle or just the Olympus paddles or was that more of a joke.

How do both of you define a power paddle? What is the specific MPH for serve and punch that defines this for each of you?

Do you know the swing weight of the Wilson Vesper 14?

Don’t add any weight on the Thompson when you play it. Because of their unique edge guard it makes it extremely muted vs stock IMO.

Got the scorpeus 4 and no matter what weight setup i did it felt horrible
