Use function notation

In this lesson you will learn to rename a function by using function notation.

STANDARDS

CCSS.HSF-IF.A.1 Understand that a function from one set (called the domain) to another set (called the range) assigns to each element of the domain exactly one element of the range. If 𝘧 is a function and 𝘹 is an element of its domain, then 𝘧(𝘹) denotes the output of 𝘧 corresponding to the input 𝘹. The graph of 𝘧 is the graph of the equation 𝘺 = 𝘧(𝘹).

TEKS.A2.7.I write the domain and range of a function in interval notation, inequalities, and set notation.

TEKS.8.5.G identify functions using sets of ordered pairs, tables, mappings, and graphs;

TEKS.A1.12.A decide whether relations represented verbally, tabularly, graphically, and symbolically define a function;

TEKS.A1.2.A determine the domain and range of a linear function in mathematical problems; determine reasonable domain and range values for real-world situations, both continuous and discrete; and represent domain and range using inequalities;

TEKS.A1.6.A determine the domain and range of quadratic functions and represent the domain and range using inequalities;

TEKS.A1.9.A determine the domain and range of exponential functions of the form 𝑓(𝑥) = 𝑎𝑏 to the 𝑥 power and represent the domain and range using inequalities;

IN.AI.F.1 Understand that a function from one set (called the domain) to another set (called the range) assigns to each element of the domain exactly one element of the range. Understand that if f is a function and x is an element of its domain, then f(x) denotes the output of f corresponding to the input x. Understand the graph of f is the graph of the equation y = f(x).

IN.AII.F.1 Determine whether a relation represented by a table, graph, or equation is a function.

IN.AI.F.3 Identify the domain and range of relations represented in tables, graphs, verbal descriptions, and equations.

VA.F.AII.7.a domain, range, and continuity;

VA.PFA.8.15.b determine the domain and range of a function.

VA.F.A.7.a determining whether a relation is a function;

VA.F.A.7.b domain and range;
