India is observing a day of mourning on Sunday in honour of Britain's Queen Elizabeth II.
India was a British colony for nearly 200 years, and is now the largest nation in the Commonwealth.
But lately, the right-wing government has tried to move away from its colonial past.

Al Jazeera's @Pavni Mittal reports from New Delhi, India.

India is doing the right thing - it needs to remove everything from the colonial past - India needs to shine as India - not British empire neither Mogul empire!

This should have been done much earlier but sadly the colonial mentality still exists among some liberals.

In the title Aj tried to portray like India is mourning Elizabeth's demise. But the renovation of central vista (now Kartavya path) has been going on from last few years. It has nothing to do with anybody's demise. Death of any person is sad, but people can't mourn for every person dying in this world.

I hope Britain pays back 45000 billion dollars (equivalent) they looted from India during colonial times... That would be great!

India is a block like Europe. She has to grow many folds and start carving out a totally independent and peaceful identity. Things happening in India are in the right direction..

No wonder India is more inclined towards Russia.
Not only weapons, but also the past .
I heard Russia once helped India by sending nuclear submarines to help against Western Aggression
They should reintroduce Sanskrit as first language and replace English with russian.
Imagine 1.4 billion people speaking Russian.

Before British came to India’s GDP was 25 to 30 % of world’s GDP after British left we were only less than 2% . Go to London museum and see for yourself why .

I am fairly sure that this is the first time I have heard language such as this from an Indian PM. Is there a reason for the shift? How accurate of a factual description is it? As a metaphor, I suppose one can say such things. But as a set of facts that fit with one side of a Western narrative of late? There are things we are no longer taught in the West. And there are things I have never heard from Asian Indians in person or on television.
