A sad day indeed. She was my first ship during my time in the Royal Navy.
She was a beautiful ship!

So sorry to see what is happening to the Royal Navy, once respected word wide!!, it was a pleasure to serve many good years from 1972.

Let’s me honest, that time you left Portsmouth for the last time was the best! 💪

Very sad, as I was part of the original ships company when first commissioned in 1985.

Unfortunately 42s wouldn't have survived in the modern era. Mechanically they were breaking apart, if their backs weren't breaking their masts were starting to separate from the superstructure. The warfare equipment is now outdated and obsolete. I know 45s are marmite ships but the US Navy choose them as their "go to" AAW escort and rate them above Arleigh Burkes in terms of capability.

Some warships are better for the enemy to sink or become museums than to scrap.
