First and foremost, NEVER USE A 4 POINT BELT WITHOUT AN
ASM (Anti-submarine) SHOULDER. It is extremely dangerous to run a 5 point or 6 point belt as a 4
point belt. Without the sub-strap, there is no restraint to stop the body from
sliding under the seat belts during a frontal collision. In order to use a 5 or
6 point race harness, a properly mounted sub-strap must be used, do not simply
discard the sub-strap and convert it to a 4 point. If you desire a 4 point belt
or can only correctly install a 4 point belt, then you MUST purchase a belt
that is designed specifically as a 4 point belt with the ASM shoulder or some
other means of anti-submarine protection. If you cannot install a proper 4
point belt then you are safer and better off using the OEM 3 point belt than
using a 4 point non-ASM belt.

For the shoulder belt angles, the kid in the video said
that belts can be mounted at a positive angle. That is a VERY DANGEROUS
mounting angle. Shoulder belts should NEVER be mounted at a positive angle,
they should be mounted from 0 degrees to 20 degrees DOWNWARD MAXIMUM with 10
Degrees downward being ideal. If the shoulder belts are mounted at a positive
angle then they will work to hold the driver in the seat during a roll over and
will allow him to come off the seat with potentially very dangerous
consequences. The shoulder belt angle should NEVER EXCEED 20 degrees downward
either because this will put excess load on the lower spine during a frontal
collision, resulting in severe lower back injuries.

Shoulder belts should always be mounted to the roll cage
whenever possible because you want to make your belt lengths as short as
possible. The longer the belt, the more stretch you will have in the belt
during a collision and the more likely the belt will slip out of place. If you
do need to mount the shoulder belts more than 18" from the back of the
seat, the shoulder belts MUST be crossed in an X pattern to reduce the
likelihood of the belts slipping off the shoulders and Forward Neck Restraint.
However, if the roll cage is not strong enough to support the 4, 000 lbs. load
that the shoulder belts will see during a collision then it is acceptable to
use the factory mounts and use a harness bar to achieve the proper angle. If
the shoulder belts are mounted to the roll cage then you should use some method
to ensure the belts cannot move laterally on the bar. Usually roll bar padding
is used to act as a stop to prevent the shoulder belts from slipping out of
position but you can also use shaft collars or similar to ensure the belts stay
in the proper place.

Most likely his original set of Takata belts were fake
belts due to the description he provided of the belt slipping through the
hardware. This happens on Nylon belts with age because the nylon stretches and
wears out but is less likely to happen with Polyester webbing. All Takata and
Schroth belts are made with polyester webbing which has much more wear
resistance and offers more resistances to water, UV and chemicals. All FIA
homologated belts are made with Polyester webbing as well as SFI 16.5/16.6.
Only SFI 16.1 allows Nylon webbing and it is usually only found on the lower
cost SFI 16.1 belts.

In the video, he swaps the hardware from his fake Takata
belts to his new G-force belts. HARDWARE FROM DIFFERENT MANUFACTURERS SHOULD
NEVER BE SWAPPED. Each manufactures designs and produces hardware to work
explicitly with their webbing and the tolerances are set up to work only with
that webbing. The hardware will not work properly with different webbing and
could result in the belt completely slipping out of the bracket during a
collision. It is very dangerous to swap hardware.

When installing hardware on any point, you want to make
sure the 3 bar adjuster is as close as possible to mounting bracket, snap-hook
or roll bar. This minimizes micro-slip during a collision and ensures the
hardware is properly locked in place.

Also when doing the final lock over wrap on the 3 bar
adjuster, you must have a minimum of 4" of webbing coming through the
adjuster.

That is what I found. His lap belt mounting points were
actually pretty good and in the correct location.

PLEASE CONTACT HIM AND LET HIM KNOW THAT HE NEEDS TO
INSTALL A 5 point or 6 point belt or get a Takata/Schroth belt with an ASM
Shoulder. His current setup is extremely dangerous.

Also, I noticed in the video that he has the incorrect
roll bar padding. He is using soft foam roll bar padding which will not protect
his head during a collision and will actually result in an acceleration of the
head off the roll cage during an accident. He needs to install SFI 45.2 roll
bar padding or FIA rated roll bar padding. There is dual durometer padding
which offers a soft outer layer for comfort but still has the high density foam
for protection that could work well in his application. Roll bar padding must
be installed anywhere the drivers head can reach within 18" of the seat,
both in front and behind the seat.

Let us know if you have any questions. Thanks.

You know you NEVER want to go over the roll bar and mount to the rear seat. You MUST wrap to the harness bar and instructions are on our website. Please correct

I always wondered how to attach the harness to the harness bar, thanks!

Any video on drilling the hole for the eye bolt beside the seat as I have an eg civic with recaros and not able to fit it in as it's too close to the side of the handbrake. I don't have a clue on how you do it I'm assuming you used a special drill bit to make the grooves for the thread on the eye bolt?? Can you help.

well what im going to do is keep the rear interior intact and if i need to take passengers just unhook them and use stock belts. i have a 87 corolla so its not a complex interior.
