But... the Taylor series for sin and cos are polynomials with odd and even powers, respectively.

Of course, when you look at the Taylor series of sin & cos, you realize that they *are* polynomials…

*raises hand* Mr Woo! On my fingers I can do 9 x 1 to 10, and I want to know why this works!
Hold out your fingers to show "ten" (count thumbs as fingers here!) count from left to right 1 - 10, lower the finger that you want to times by nine, whatever finger is before is the "ones" spot and the other number is in the "tens" spot so holding down my pinkie "1" I have 9 fingers still remaining, so I write down 09, dropping the zero, and that is what 1 x 9 is, 9. the second finger held down leaves the pinkie up, and a space, I have "1" followed by "8" so I write down 18 and that is what 2x9 is, and so on it goes... why does this work? How does this work, is there other things that can be done on the fingers in this way? Thanks Mr Woo!
