With the grass gone all the elephants can scratch from the dust is withered twigs. The adults might last on this but it will not support a calf for long...

Most other mammals might have abandoned their offspring to prioritize their own survival. The fact that she stayed until the end illustrates just how heartbreakingly emotional these creatures are

That baby died but unlike many others it wasn't left behind alone, scared and dying by itself. What an amazing mother to stay behind.

An Elephant pregnancy lasts 2 years, such a tragedy for a mother to see one die.

This has to be the hardest thing to film. To see this and know that, even if you could, you weren't allowed to do anything to save them. I don't think I could take it.

She stayed to comfort her baby so that he wouldn’t be frightened and alone. Her last and greatest gift to him. 🐘

Elephants are such amazing creatures, so dedicated to each other and they raise young as a herd, as you heard Ser Attenburough say the baby elephant was trying to feed from all the females who could produce milk, but they had all ran out. The fact the mother stayed behind with her baby is so amazing, and she tried to help it up to no avail... this was heartbreaking to watch for sure.
