UA 6176 ( 610B & 1176LN) and LA-610 MK2 vs UA plugins and unison

I was asked on a forum to do a comparison of UA channel strips VS UAD unison / plugins. So here it is. Neumann TLM-49 for vocals and Blue Kiwi for guitar (recorded at the same time).
I'm hearing a double voice on the second recording. I checked the tracks and it's caused by bleed-through between the guitar and vocal mike.

"I can't sing and I'm not a very good guitar player"
*sings and plays beautifully*

Felt strangely emotional as you came in playing Bob Dylan there. Brought it all back to the music

Really enjoyed the song choice here in capturing the vintage character of the 610. Appreciate you posting this.

Your voice and guitar are terrific. You're too humble! Thank you for the demo - awesome.

Man thats a lot of cash you have there in equipment and it sounds great.
Nice playing and vocals too.
I am guessing the first example was the hardware and the second was the software.
First example was fantastic sounding.
I just picked up the LA-610 MK2 for my project studio and can't wait to try it out.

Thanx for setting up the comparison, it helped clarify the differences (Nice work on the tune too!) ... The UA counterparts are clearly more warm and open, and the UAD plugin seems to be more 'Hi-Fi' .. however they sound fantastic.

Hello!
Thank you for the video. Could you make a comparison of the la-610 and 6176 compressors on vocals or on an acoustic guitar? With tight settings 6-10 VUmetr. Many people do not know what to choose, you would really help.

Great video!
I'm going to buy one of this. What do you think is better 6176 or LA610 for vocals, acoustic guitar, guitar combos?
Thank you!

It's a great comparison, and very useful for me since I'm considering purchasing an Apollo interface. I want to point out to everyone also though that while this is about as close a comparison as one could make with these channel strips, I don't think it can be the same as using a standalone 610 with a standalone 1176 or LA2A - I know they're the same circuits but there could still be a lot of variation internally the way the preamps are hitting the compressor and the physical settings of the knobs etc. if there were a software model of these specific channel strips I'd be interested to hear that too. Thanks for the nice video.

3:46 - 4:40
Different takes, different mixing, its true, but anyway...Hardware wins!
Thanks for the video.

Thanks for this! Bigger difference than I had expected. I have to say I much preferred the vocal on the UAD version. Can't say I like the guitar more on one or the other, but they do sound very different from each other. I think I would go with the 610 Mk II here.

Both sound good but the hardware imho sounded better and more radio ready on both vocals and guitar. It just had a thicker more well rounded sound than the plug ins.

I'm just catching up and ran across this video. May I ask: Why did you choose the 1176 for vocals and the LA-2A for the guitar? My brain would have it the exact opposite-- The heavier compressor on the guitar and the more gentle compressor on the voice. Just wondering why you chose your approach. Thank You! Cool video!

Wonderful comparison, plugin is so digital and lifeless vocals are too flat digital sounding but the hardware is thick and natural, nice singing, thank you :)
