The Sad and Slow Death of Voltron

We know that fandom culture can be bad sometimes. But what about the worst of times? Voltron: Legendary Defenders was one of Netflix's greatest animated series, until it wasn't. And the reason it went downhill so fast isn't a mystery. And for once, we can't pin the blame on the studio execs or the writers.

While I feel bad for how the killed off Allura, I felt like her sacrifice to undo the damage done by Honerva was supposed to be symbolic in a way of her truly bringing an end to an era, an era that started with Alfor and Zarkon but now ends with Allura, and with that, the end to the pains of the past and second chance for a brighter future, but unfortunately Allura won't be there to see that future.

Personally, I think that they could have just wrapped it up in season 7 which really felt like an ending with Allura, Coran, Romelle and the paladins building their lives on earth together along with the coalition while leaving it slightly open ended to the imagination of what the future holds.

Unfortunately, now Coran is the one who's alone even though he has the paladins and Altea but the last of his family is basically gone. Yes, he has Romelle as somewhat of a daughter but it's not the same.
The same with Lance who lost the love of his life and is now somewhat of a widower in a way stuck in a limbo of grief for his lost love, choosing to live the rest of his life alone in grief under the guise of "carrying on Allura's message and teachings" while his friends have in a way found their own peace but he hasn't truly.

A lot of final seasons in Netflix feel rushed (Castlevania, Disenchantment and Kipo in the Age of Wonderbeast are examples from the top of my head), but seeing how Voltron dragged its story beyond any reasonable point, I'm ultimately glad that other Netflix originals went for the lest quit while we still have some goodwill option

I see Voltron as a disappointment. While the ending wasn’t good. but for me(Looks at troll hunters rise of the titans) I can honestly say I’ve seen worse.

I always thought the paladins were main characters and the decision to kill off Allura was foolish and stupid. It should’ve been Voltron that was destroyed so it would show that the entire universe doesnt need them anymore and they can finally go on in peace

I despise Allura with my everything.
When I watched this show, she ended up being the only character I could say that I hated or even disliked really.
She felt incredibly hypocritical and maybe it was just the last season that left a bad taste in my mouth, but I never liked her, not from the first season when she was pretty rough and inconsiderate to Pidge

Rip ultron, you deserved better. Or end on a better note. Like with that ending, you should have done aloong epilogue, not a shock and rushed 😢.
Also i think the lions should sacrificed themself in alluras sacrifice to take her space magic, but not life.

I find it funny this is exactly how I feel towards She-ra, and yet they genuinely liked that show, while his feelings on She-ra was how I felt watching Voltron

I’m a big fan of voltron since it came out and saw the series 7 times in a row for a whole ass month for season 1, 2, and 3 but after a while the show became unfunny and boring to me so I left it because it wasn’t that interesting anymore but I got back into it again and the ending destroyed me allura was a character I could relate to and find funny and strong but the fact she is gone makes my heart clench with sadness. I never wanted to participate in the voltron fandom because of all the toxicity and shipping and the fact that some klance fans hate allura for being with lance make me sad and I respect their ship and all but it doesn’t mean you have to be a crappy parson and hate a fictional character written with the purpose of entertainment and more diversity. To me allura and lance didn’t seem so bad since I never actually noticed all the moments lance had with Keith since I’m pretty oblivious to the tiny things so I always saw them as best friends fighting even as brothers taking care of each other and making amends like family. And I know they would have been canon in the show but something happened and now we are here I wouldn’t have had any problems with that at all and in fact I enjoy the idea that maybe the show could’ve had a happier ending for lance. And you’re right is isn’t the fault of the fandom or anything else really they just kept fueling a fire without the wood to keep it going and it breaks my soul that it turned out this way the series will be in my heart but the writers and producers just didn’t know when to stop. Thank you for listening to me rambling really needed this since I couldn’t properly mourn the end of the show and dead of allura but sharing this makes me feel much better thank you so much really love your videos ❤

Personally, while the show should have ended in like season two or another, I felt that season eight wasnt needed. It could've ended earlier, but I liked season seven's ending and felt it should've ended and been done there.

sadly Voltron is owned by someone who doesn't understand the show at all. he was s hyper Reaganite.


I remember reading some good analyses on what went wrong and it was happening real time and one of the issues is that the show Garnered an olfer audience than what the owner wanted. See how young and boy centric the merchandising was.
