Fun fact: Jane Austen created Emma because she wanted to see if people would still read her work if she created a main character that was absolutely despicable. It just goes to show how amazing she is that she could succeed in creating an incredible story despite the main character's flaws. (And perhaps because of her flaws, this was an innovative novel.)

I love how different of a "main character" she is, Jane Austen knows how to make complex, flawed, realistic characters and makes social life from that era seem so interesting.

I audibly boo Emma every time she insults Mrs. Bates at the picnic. Popcorn gets thrown at the screen and it’s a stern out of me. And I love the 2020 portrayal of her (meaning Mrs. Bates).
