A protected class? Shouldn't all people be protected and treated well? When you begin to differentiate like that it means you see one group as less capleable than another and thus needs your help, making you part of the problem.

Yeah, totally fine for the initial reason they were fired. You don't just get a free pass because you claim to have had a family emergency. The employer is definitely fucked if the racist comments are documented though.
