A powerful truck explosion seriously damaged Russia’s road-and-rail bridge to Crimea Saturday, hitting a prestige symbol of Moscow’s annexation of the peninsula and the key supply route to Russian forces battling to hold territory captured in southern Ukraine.

Moscow stopped short of assigning blame, but the speaker of Crimea’s Kremlin-backed regional parliament immediately accused Ukraine, while downplaying the severity of the damage.

“Now they have something to be proud of: over 23 years of their management, they didn’t manage to build anything worthy of attention in Crimea, but they’ve managed to damage the surface of the Russian bridge,” Vladimir Konstantinov, chairman of the State Council of the Republic, wrote on Telegram.

Russian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Maria Zakharova wrote on Telegram, “The Kiev regime’s reaction to the destruction of civilian infrastructure highlights its terrorist nature.”

Kyiv has not officially claimed responsibility, but Ukrainian officials have repeatedly threatened to strike the bridge.

The official Twitter account of Ukraine's government posted “Sick burn.”

Mykhailo Podolyak, an adviser to Ukraine's president, Volodymyr Zelenskyy, lauded the attack, tweeting, "Crimea, the bridge, the beginning. Everything illegal must be destroyed, everything stolen must be returned to Ukraine, everything occupied by Russia must be expelled."

Russian anti terrorism committee is investigating. Will the committee also investigate Russian hijacking of nuclear power plant, Russian bombing of civilian housing, hospitals, museums, schools, Russian kidnapping of children, Russian killing of pets, destruction and looting of civilian farms and businesses and torture chambers for civilians in Ukraine?

Update

Crimean Bridge is back in operation.

Some people may say that Ukraine had right to attack bridge as military infrastructure, but they forget to mention that using civilian truck and (possibly unknowingly) civilian dressed driver for a bomb attack is a war crime, even if your target is legitimate military.
-Alexander Seven

- Crimean Bridge is back in operation - further repairs are required but road and rail traffic resumes;
- Western media notes the US is out of ammunition to send Ukraine and that US allies have even less;
- Nations like France have reached the limits of what they can send in terms of heavy weapons;
- Regional weather and subsequent mud is limiting the mobility of ground forces on both sides, giving the advantage to Russia which possess a larger air force, more drones, and long-range weapons indifferent to ground conditions;
- Ukrainian forces are losing ground in Bakhmut, indicating Ukrainian forces are already overextended - a situation that will only worsen in time;
- Russian forces are preserving their men and equipment and will soon be reinforced by an additional 300, 000 troops;

Putin: “What do you mean our nukes haven’t been maintained and may not work?”

General: “Well …. you know how everyone in your regime drives high end Range Rovers, Mercedes, and has vacation homes abroad and yachts they could not possibly afford on a government salary .. well where did you think they got the money from to buy them???”

Putin: “Can’t we just steal more from the commoners? After all, they are so stupid, we have been doing it for years yet they still support us”

General: “Well …. over the decades we’ve stolen pretty much everything we can from the commoners …. we did have a plan to steal their toilets …. unfortunately most of them don’t have indoor plumbing …. but don’t worry, we have a backup plan! We have plenty of toilets coming from Ukraine!”

It's not a truck bomb, a Russian was clearly smoking on that fuel train.

A truck bomb exploded. Wasn’t this truck being driven by a person? Wouldn’t this be considered a suicide bomber that has killed innocent people?

Based on that fire being fed by what looks like some kind of liquid tanker rail car, and how long it's been burning, I suspect the rail line is a total loss where the fire is burning and will need to be replaced.

It looks like a Russian contractor routinely driving from Russia to Crimea, shipping explosives and ammunition for high profits to supply Russian invaders in Kherson and Zaporizhzhia, unwittingly became the target of a (Russian or Ukrainian) saboteur who attached a detonator to the bottom of the truck leaving Russia. Unless remotely triggered, it was a coincidence that during the explosion a fuel train was moving abreast in the opposite direction towards Russia, aggravating the fireworks.

While cutting off a resupply route, this damage also cuts off a retreat route. I wonder if that will demoralize Russian troops in Crimea or help rally them.
