They say when you are writing a novel, read books in that genre 😊 I have to agree.

I always find it fascinating when authors talk about their inspirations and their processes, especially things that influence their writing styles. Very interesting vid! I don't know when this vid was recorded but I hope you and your family are doing well. Sending positive, healing thoughts from Canada!

I don’t know what inspired me to write…and some days I wish I hadn’t started! 😂😂 Sometimes I have felt such overwhelm with my writing and wonder if I should continue. I love it and feel like this is my purpose so I continue and vow to not give up!

I love seeing what inspires authors! I can for sure see Cinder's fingerprints on TSK! And I think that's a good thing ❤ Books, music, and movies inspire me so heavily. I'll definitely be making a video about it in the future. Loved this!!!

I read Save the Cat, and I wish it was translated so I could share and discuss it with my writer friends who don't read English! Thanks for the recommandation back in 2019, I'm pretty sure I heard about it on your channel!😂
And I am a huge fan of the Lunar Chronicles (I met Marissa Meyer recently on her Gilded French tour, and she was so nice!) and I really liked the same "series structure" when I read your TSK!

I am in the process of creating my debut novel and a lot of famous authors have influenced my novel. This video is super helpful as I’m not alone. My novel is a Greek mythology that is based on a retelling

Such a great video! I love this concept. I always think of the shows or random thoughts that inspire my ideas, but I never thought about the hundreds of books I’ve read influencing me and my work. You’ve definitely given me a lot to think about!

Save the Cat helped my analytical brain see how to write a fiction novel. It's amazing!!

I love these insights of how you wrote/write your series, and in this one what books inspired you.🥰

I forgot to mention books that influenced my writing of fairy tales! They include nonfiction about the age of Louis XIV, and also Madame de Villeneuve's The Story of The Beauty and the Beast.

Maybe they thought your series each book was a stand-alone because each book is a different retelling? it's a different way of doing, so I can see how it can be seeing that way (although when I read series my mind - and my OCD - jumps to I have to read in order😂)

Not that I'm saying I agree or disagree but I've read a lot of fairy tale retellings and all of them are usually a series of standalones. They take from the structure of a romance series where you have each book is about a different couple so in the case of fairy tale retellings they jump to different couples and retellings. Usually they're connected by the world and other hints like a princess in one is related to or knows a princess from another.

I do like how you and the lunar Chronicles structured yours like a series. In mine I did standalones but I like having mine connect too so I plan to do a book that does that. But it is an odd thing and I'm not sure how the expectation started.

I assume people who read fairy tale retellings expect and want to kind of just jump in and read the retellings of the fairy tales they like. For instance I prefer beauty and the beast over aladdin so i would skip aladdin retelling if I had the choice. That's just an example especially since I know yours is a series but there could be readers out there who wanna jump to their preferred fairy tale and can't. But to me I agree and like when a series follows an order and connects and you gotta read it though. Although standalones are easier to market while maintaining the bingeability a series can provide.

I'm excited for my new series too! Because it's been inspired by Harry Potter ^^
