Just wanted to say thanks for doing these videos. My daughter is halfway through her a-level and being help. My brain has been boiling a little bit trying to remember maths just from reading her text books - you make it so much clearer. Thanks a million

When u were talking about calculating the mean of the distances from the mean, do u take both sides and all of the distances from the mean?

Just so that I understood it right; the variance technically gives us an area & we have to take the square root of the variance to get the standard deviation, which gives us what we wanted from the start (a length), right? Why does the variance even exist then? Why do we not just immediately learn the standard deviation is the square root of [...]? Is that just mathematicians making things more complicated than necessary again? 😅
