Dude this is the most unwarranted hateful comment section! Read some comments then I watched the whole video expecting there to be a rage fueled hate rant by peoples reactions…. Joel was so chill, made the best of an unfortunate situation and had a positive attitude the whole time. Everyone saying joel is a crybaby must have nothing better going on than to hate. I love that you're so versatile and open to trying different types of food and very respectful. There are some people who would try something once but right away say they won't like it. But If people eat this food it's because they're use to it and if you eat them on a regular basis it probably would be the norm to you. You're like the "I wanna try everything once" type of dude.

Yea, VOA in Vietnam can be a Hassel! I've always done the electronic pre-Visa form at $50! That gets you on the plane & you present the pre-Visa form at immigration in Vietnam for your actual Visa!

Joel the airline is correct. Vietnam Immigration has an e-visa for "transit travel". Others have travelled through Vietnam as a stopover and required a visa for different airlines.

Hi Joel, I just want to share my experiences trying to fly into Vietnam because I've also experienced extreme hardship as a Vietnamese American. Trust me when I say that Vietnam's international customs / border patrol are corrupt and extremely unwelcoming. They try to extort me for money/bribes every time I visit. I flew out of Los Angeles International Airport (LAX) on asian airlines.

1. One trip, my travel agent wrote the wrong start date for my visa and I did not observe this until I was trying to board my flight. The flight attendant would not let me board due to the date initially until I phoned my travel agent to update the date and send a new visa. Unfortunately, it was a paper print out and while the airline accepted it (because again, they don't want liability), Vietnam border patrol / customs wouldn't let me in. So I had to pay several hundred U.S. dollars to apply for whatever the visa is called at Vietnam's Ho Chi Minh airport and only then they would allow me in. This same flight, I ended up flying out of Vietnam to another neighboring asian country and when I tried to fly back into Vietnam, it was the same damn issue. Both times, the customs agent would ask me for "coffee money for him and his buddoes" in Vietnamese which is basically extorting me to give them money in order for them to not give me a harder time than they already were.

2. Another trip, my renew U.S. passport's alphanumeric ID did not match what was written in my Vietnamese Visa which contained my old passport ID. All the other info and picture matched obviously. I brought my old passport as evidence that its still me. The asian airline allowed me to board but when I got to Vietnam customs, again, same goddamn bullshit where they gave me an extremely hard time and extorted me for money.

EDIT: I would not blame the airline too much as its really the Vietnamese government which is to blame for how extremely difficult they are with this stuff. For anyone trying to fly to Vietnam, make sure all your documents are correct and ready, where you're using a known process thats working for many other people and theres nothing they can question you about. Cause trust me, they will give you a hard time, especially if you're of asian descent.
