In May 1979 I was hired as director of stations for Swift Aire Lines. We were based in San Luis Obispo, California and, at the time, were the 5th largest commuter airline in the USA. When I took over we were operating into 9 CA cities with de Havilland Heron DH-114 and Nord 262 aircraft but placed a $20 million order for 3 F27 Fokker's & spare pts (50 passenger). I was responsible for all training of airport staff on the F27. It was great fun to be involved at the time.

@AccessAir ~ Thanks for the shoutout. You know more about the fate of those 27's that I do. Left Swift for a position with Comair (out of CVG) in 1980 after falling in love with my SLO station manager (Sue Bowman). V.P. Wanda Strassburg told me not to date Sue but love is a powerful thing. :) When I joined Swift we had just had a Nord 262 go down off the coast of Santa Maria. I knew the flt attendant (who survived). Her financee (the Captain), sadly, did not. She kept flying.

@AccessAir, it wasn't recorded but I was hoping you'd appreciate what there was of it.

@AccessAir ~ A funny yet true story ~ When Charlie Wiswell (sole owner & a captain for Swift) 1st started the company ('69) the first batch of stationery ordered was a misprint; they spelled Swift Air Lines ~ Swift AIRE Lines ~ and so it came to pass. :) Charlie was a tuff cookie, we fought with the city of SLO for YEARS to lengthen the runway so we could bring in the larger F27's. So much fun, back then, to be in the middle of it

@MrRonnieG That cool, I always loved how the Swift Aire colours graced the F.27. Sadly all three of those former Swift Air F.27s have crashed....

MAC Anderson, SC. Then they moved the Main maintenance base to Kinston, NC in 1996. The Fokker F-27 were retired after acquiring an ATR series aircraft. That and the Cessna Caravan are their main fleet. Good company to work for Mountain Air Cargo. "The Mountain".
