The upstream project Forklift is designed to move a large amount of virtual machines to OpenShift virtualization or KubeVirt.

Right now, it’s supporting VMware VMs. In the future, it will also support Rev and OpenStack VMs moving to OpenShift or KubeVirt.

Migration analytics is will be on-premise inside of the tool instead of only in the cloud. So, you can see whether there will be any compatibility issues before migrating VMs!

And the future Warm Migration feature will let you migrate virtual machines with less downtime. All thanks to disks being copied without having to shutdown your VM.

To see the architecture on how this all works, watch this video.
