I agree this should've been an update for TSW3 with the new features. It uses the same engine, so there's absolutely no reason why the previous game couldn't be updated. And the three new routes could be sold for TSW3 as a bundle. Now players have to buy a new game, and *yet again* do all the old achievements, services, etc. on old routes. TSW should be ONE unified platform now, with only updates and new content, not a separate release almost every year.

I'm looking forward to Train Sim World 5 in a couple of months from now, featuring one new train and no other changes :P

I live in the LA area and have ridden the Antelope Valley and other Metrolink lines quite a bit. To be fair to the development team, that's really what the hills around LA look like. Bland and brown mostly. In the spring they'll get covered in grass from rains, but most of the year it's really nothing to write home about. So in that respect, the dev team did a good job recreating what it actually looks like. They nailed the sounds for the F125.

It’s mind-boggling that it took Dovetail four entire games to incorporate such basic features as photo mode and free roam.

I have been stuck with train sim world 2020 for 5 years and now I finally got 4! This told me a lot about the game! Thanks.

I live in Peterborough and that route is where The Flying Scotsman set the official record for reaching 100mph in 1934. :)

I wish they would have a Snowpiercer DLC. Imagine...travelling endlessly on a white dessert, stuck on a constant speed so that the cold wouldn't freeze your engine. The thrill of that ride!

I've been playing since TSW2, honestly each new itteration feels like a copy-paste of the previous game with minor improvments. I guess it might be worth it for the new routes tho, with that loyaty pre-order discount I might consider getting it since I've bee hoping for both an LNER and an OBB line for a while now so this seems somewhat exciting.

Two things that still seem to be apparent in this video are stuttering/micro-pauses and scenery pop-in/noticeable LOD changes. So, no improvement over TSW3 in that respect.

I agree with you regarding the update/new game situation, but DTG have been clever with the pricing, offering a reduction for pre-order plus a 'loyalty bonus' if you already own TSW3.

I agree as well. After TSW and TSW2 and TSW3, there's nothing to see in TSW4. Honestly, I can't tell the differences between TSW and TSW4. For me, it's a pure scam. So please people, do not support them any more, as soon TSW5 will arrive and so on.

It's quite disappointing that since TSW2, Dovetail still hasn't managed (bothered?) to have a full-fidelity steam engine simulation. I.e. water and injector management, coal-firing and the like. The base offering for steam looks good on the surface as is 'playable' (and dare I say appeals to the majority out there), but the lack of deep steam simulation is rather obvious now, being that we're into the 4th offering of this franchise...

I hate the developers for making almost the same thing similar to how EA does it

For me as a newbie (last sim played was 2020) this is an absolute GO for it. Love just stressing off and drive passenger's from station to station. Very nice video very well done, thank you.

That's why they will never change, it's not good, but we accept it, no problem.

I guess it depends on how you look at it. The cost of the three new routes combined would (and will) individually exceed the cost of a TSW4 upgrade, so when you add on the graphical updates (which aren't gigantic but are definitely noticeable) it's worth it if you care about the route bundle. If not, no biggie, TSW3 is still there for you.

As a fan of rail simulators since the release of MSTS I think Dovetail's business model is somewhat worse than EA. It sucks because they have the potential to produce a great product but chose greed and un-optimization instead.

Since owning tsw, tsw2, tsw3 ive learnt they should be all in one game just updates or dlc

I have been playing since TSW came out many many moons ago and I love the game, I've been playing train Sims since i got Microsoft Train simulator back in 2001 and love what they have done with TSW but I'm saddened to see such a great game like this have so much potential and the powers that be not take advantage of it. But still I love this game and still hold out hope that we will get more and more updates and expansions to make it the game we all want it to be

Thank you for a helpful and informative review. I`ve never played a TSW game, but am tempted now.
